  1. If the Poles are smart, they put Krzysztof Chmielewski in this 200m fly final instead of slightly slower Micha. Nobody would notice anyway
  2. Now on to the first US stage in over two decades, probably the number one anticipated highlight of the year All those thousands of tickets being sold out within half an hour, I am so looking forward to the weekend
  3. Is that including the Dutch DQ (thanks to Toussaint swimming on her back during the turning point in the freestyle leg)?
  4. Absolutely true. The Elo-like system would in theory be fine, but probably hard to implement in a fair way (just look at the never-ending discussions about FIS points in cross-country skiing), so better not offer any points at all for continental championships. It'd honestly be laughable to get as many points for being the slowest competitive team in the Oceanian championships (you know, finishing 2nd) as you'd get for say beating France, Germany, Poland and Great Britain...but not the Netherlands (or any random combination of those teams), which is obviously a way better result in reality.
  5. Makes you wonder, was it one of those situations where athletes have to train on a road where trucks are racing past them by centimeters? The places where athletes in Kenya train are absolute hellholes in terms of safety... Edit: he was in a car, with several others. https://nation.africa/kenya/sports/athletics/shock-as-world-marathon-record-holder-kiptum-coach-die-in-road-accident-4522064
  6. Yeah that first shooting was unfortunate Still very impressed with the way she made it up and ended up a very decent 11th, that is still one of the top results ever plus it should more or less solidify her chances to start in the mass start
  7. I don't think I have often seen a 'Not qualified' list with this much quality in it at a World Cup, damn Other than Tediashvili, every single one of these athletes is capable of getting into a final...
  8. Huh, now that you mention it... Thanks, I guess these oddly placed championships aren't that much of a high priority everywhere, as one would kind of expect
  9. Wait, what? Is this the first time in history USA can't field a competitive women's 4x100 freestyle team? I genuinely don't remember them not being one of the main medal candidates (I guess my memory is wrong, of course, but still)
  10. Why are the American teams not there in both 4x100 freestyle relays? Edit: the women, I meant, the men suddenly appeared (or, more likely, I had completely overlooked them )
  11. The 17-year old Lebanese record in the 100m breast is gone
  12. How did the responsible product owner (I assume) of Eurovisionsports' video stream team think "Well, sure, we will have a live stream, but unlike every single modern live stream provider of nowadays, we will not make it have the option to watch from the beginning of the stream, that's a great idea!"?
  13. Give Baiba an extra cheer please And have fun, atmosphere seems to be fantastic as always in Nove Mesto
  14. Wow, Vermeulen / Unbelievable, what a day yesterday
  15. Oh wow! Recently at a work thing we were asked who our hero was, just for fun, and of all possible people in the world, I picked Kasai Can't overstate enough how happy I am we get to see him another time
  16. Oh wow, 5th place for Baiba @brunamoura (who, in case someone missed it, is coached by Baiba) nearly punched the chair next to me in half when she missed that 10th shot, but after that....jubilation and pride and everything, it's been an hour since we watched her finish and we're both still pumped up with adrenaline
  17. "Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce: Jamaica sprint legend to retire after Paris 2024 Olympics" Both unexpected (because it felt like she'd go on forever) and expected (because of her age and winning everything one can win) at the same time
  18. Village of Lukashenko, using the name Solovyev (that propaganda dude who keeps yelling Russia needs to nuke the western world), very clearly some trolling from whoever came with this story
  19. As documents now show, the Russians tried to blame it on, I kid you not, a strawberry dessert Valieva's granddad made for her on the same cutting board he uses to crushes his heart medication (for which no prescription or any kind of evidence could be found), which Valieva then supposedly took with her all the way to the national championships This is Sara "my mom's medication fell in the pasta sauce" Errani or Adri "the pigeon meat was tainted" van der Poel level nonsense
  20. Yeah, that's what we as Dutch cycling fans have been saying for about 10 years now, and only 10 years ago that was actually true
  21. Dutch cyclist Antwan Tolhoek has tested positive....for steroids Seriously, the rider who in Dutch cycling circles is called 'Child soldier' because of his tiny appearance, gets caught for steroids Edit: I had forgotten for this season he had made the switch to one of those super shady Portuguese continental teams, where generally they sprint up the mountains until they get caught and/or the team gets disbanded due to investigations. Oh well, matter of time then, he didn't even make it past the first winter
  22. 10 minutes per jury, which is very generous, leads to 10 hours of voting windows. One hour break at halftime, for example two 15 minute breaks in both halves, and you've got a 12 hour Grand Final, easily in one day
  23. Thanks! Imagine, one miraculous day all nations that ever participated are in the same contest (and of course South Korea enters), 60 songs to listen and rank
