At first, I had read 'shootering' and for a couple of seconds, I asked myself what the hell : shooting on skates ?

Probably more fun than 'scootering' anyway...

29 years after his first World Cup medal the 44 years old Michal Martikán won another medal today.

This was his 43rd World Cup Podium the first one was in 1995 when he was 15 years old

Apart this he is obviously 5 times Olympic medalist winning medal at every Games he took part (2 Golds - 2 Silvers - 1 Bronze)

and 15 times World Champion (23 medals overall) and 15 times European Champion (24 medals Overall)

Like it wasn't bad enough, countries aren't going to be announced as the country anymore, they're now officially racing under super lame forced nicknames.

    American Eagles

I don't think I ever seen such sportmanship in defeat like Krysten Coombs showed us tonight. That was fantastic to see.

And kudos to the winner Charles Noakes obviously

joins  on the list of nations with a medal at the Paralympic Games, but not at the Olympic Games (assuming my research is correct).

Ask and you shall receive @heywoodu and @intoronto

Edit:  was left off the list, since they don't keep as a sperate team at the Olympics.

Nice gold...but 16s advantage? I can't get used to such races. It's like it's not his category. For me differencies between athletes are too extreme here. Much bigger than in womans boxing. But here everyone is extatic..me...this is the reason i find it difficult to watch.

    Hi @Gianlu33, @Griff88, @JoshMartini007, @mpjmcevoy, @vinipereira, @Vic Liu, @Cinnamon Bun, @hckošice, @rybak, @Josh, @avlar, @heywoodu, @Epic Failure, @phelps, @ChandlerMne @Grassmarket, @De_Gambassi, @Olympian1010, @konig, @Monzanator , @dodge, @PHI2019, @Fer GUA Attached is points table based on Top 8 performance in each event where 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7 pts, 3rd gets 5, 4th gets 2.5, 5th gets 2,6th gets 1.5, 7th gets 1 and 8th gets 0.5 pts. To measure nations' performance few terms have been introduced
'Quota' is number of participants per country in each event. Qualified but non-participation is not included in Quota.
'Top 8' is the number of events a country finished in Top 8.
Conversion = Top 8 / Quota which implies Contingent quality.
'Normalized Points' = Points / (Number of events in that sport). For example, if a country wins just 1 Gold in Archery, they will get 10 points but 10 points/ 5 events = 2 Normalized Points. This metric will be high for countries who earn points in multiple sports.
Aquatics events  has been divided into sports like 'Artistic Swimming', 'Swimming', 'Water Polo' and 'Diving' otherwise 'Sport' can be defined as set of events governed by same federation

    Salient Observations
    1) The nations' rank for points is closely related to rank of total medals won
    2)  is ahead of  in points table by a fair distance but very close in Normalized Points as  dominates multiple sports like Diving, Table Tennis, Badminton
    3) Countries like  ,  ,  , are ranked high in points table but low in Normalized Points as they won medals in very few sports
    4) Despite winning no medals, countries like  ,  ,  have earned decent points

Not sure how are they in France now but i remember looking at the Equipe newspaper and being jealous of the headlines they gave to non-football (of course football is still the big headline majority of times, but i remember seeing several times big covers for other sports, either after they win or just because some big competition was coming up).

There has been good improvements in some newspapers though. But the big problem are the tv channels, that's where the attention is given 100% to football clubs drama (almost every night there are "sport talkshows" in every channel, lasting for one or two hours, where they only talk about benfica/porto/sporting topics).

But tv channels also are mostly just a reflection of how majority of people think. For example, one of the saddest things i remember seeing while i was still living there: Nelson Évora, at the time one of the only four gold medallists in our entire history, after he won the medal, decided to change his training club (for the same reason anyone changes jobs, to get better compensation), and decided to leave Benfica and join Sporting (football club rivals from Lisbon).

Did anyone cared about triple jump at all? About athletics? No. And yet, the backlash of this was so big that people started to hate him, boo him, stop following on social networks, all this things just because he had left one football club to join some other. This was in 2016. Today, 2024, and there are still a lot of people that got happy because he didn't make it to the Olympics, because of what happened back them...

Football clubism in Portugal is a super toxic disease and one of the things that i hate there (and that i'm glad is not as bad here in NL )
