  1. The draw is done apparently. news websites here already announced first round opponents for our boxers.
  2. I hope so for so many reasons. nothing really personally against Alizadeh but she cheated her way into the Games (like most of EOR team members) and I always want cheaters to lose. I really hope Kiani can handle the pressure which is huge. there are/were lots of media hype about this match here. lots of talk about the battle of "Nahid and Kimia". they were team mates for a long time but never been in the same weight. Alizadeh has to cut a lot while Kiani is even small for this weight. Kimia's childhood coach (who also coached her in Rio and almost her entire life before leaving Iran) is now coaching Kiani. another story for this match.
  3. Thanks that's a bit weird though. I'm watching fencing for a while. (more than 20 years actually) still there are lots of things I don't know about this sport
  4. you can find all of them here https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/taekwondo/reports.htm
  5. and it seems whoever loses in these extra matches will be out no matter what, even if the winner goes all the way to the final there is no repechage for "qualification" losers
  6. Taekwondo brackets are available on the official website. not much change from predicted brackets as far as I can see IOC/WT made sure that Kiani vs Alizadeh happens by having a last minute replacement. this match was too "good" to let it "not happen"
  7. Official start list https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/resOG2020-/pdf/OG2020-/WLF/OG2020-_WLF_C51_WLFW49KG--------------FNL-A00100--.pdf
  8. anyway to watch it online ?
  9. I thought the individual event will follow the same format and they just put names on the bracket based on the ranking
  10. it seems the match is still on! IOC/WT wants to replace the Chilean girl with the next best athlete from Costa Rica. didn't know that's possible only 4 days before the competition
  11. yeah it seems so, I think both girls will feel great about it. there were lots of media hype about this matchup. btw Kiani's coach is Alizadeh's childhood coach. it was kind of complicated.
  12. finally after 5 years, 5 tough years I have to say yet some people still think the cancellation is still possible I mean beside that Donald orangehair guy/robot/alien
  13. I just read that one Iranian tested positive for COVID in Tokyo that was the headline which was a bit scary but fortunately it was just a TV guy, and organizers put the entire Iran TV personals on quarantine. I have absolutely no problem with that. these guys suck after all, just release the wrestling commentator. Japan can keep the rest forever. 60/70% of our athletes landed in Japan and no problem so far.
  14. their wrestling picks are kind of funny in some weights, even a kid with computer can find out who is the best male wrestler in the world at the moment, (Abdulrashid Sadulaev, 97kg freestyle) yet they predicted him to lose to "Captain America" (Kyle Snyder) in the final. at least Captain America beating the Russian tank, sounds good for the next Marvel movie. but in reality the Russian tank will eat the Cap alive.
  15. a late "injury" I assume. really disappointed I thought he is better than this. is this really hard for these Tennis players to admit they don't give a shit about the Olympics? (no money and no ranking points) do they really have to make excuses ?
  16. updated list https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/07/Final-List-of-Qualified-Athletes_18072021.pdf Israel is in for +109kg instead of Brazil. not sure if there are more changes and @hckošice you will write "Updated and Completed " but again, don't be so sure
  17. I believe this guy has to compete in men's 10m Air Pistol next day morning, it just makes sense for him to not attend the opening ceremony
  18. Without checking the schedule I thought we will have all athletes in each weight in Group A. but now I see we also have group B in all weight classes. It's probably a good idea. having 14 weightlifters in the same session is too much. there will be long delay between the attempts. I wonder how many they will "keep" for Group A. 8 or 9 I hope. and btw interestingly we will have some combined B groups. for example on 25 July we will have men's 61kg and 67kg. both Group B in these weights are scheduled for 11:50 which means they will be held together. IWF does that for minor competitions but I don't think doing that for the Olympics is a great idea. this is kind of humiliating for 67kg athletes to compete with 61kg weightlifters, specially if some of them lift lower.
  19. I'm afraid this is far from being safe, he will probably bulldoze the rest but there is one guy, David Taylor who beat Yazdani twice before. some experts may even consider Taylor as the top favorite in this weight. by my count Abdulrashid Sadulaev is the safest gold medal in men's wrestling. even though I hope someone with a very long name dethrones him
  20. it seems Tennis players are very unlucky in general. unluckiest athletes, poor guys. they get injured, get COVID positive right before the Games. the only explanation is that this sport is cursed. there is absolutely no other explanation . no way
  21. well this year is a bit different, other countries are in trouble for different reasons and China had the luxury of picking 8 weightlifters from the pool of World Champions. I believe all of them will win the gold unless they bomb out.
  22. I think all 14 gold medals in weightlifting are relatively safe picks at least these one are very safe, 8 gold medals for China + 1 for Talakhadze
  23. unlike previous two games we don't have a "safe" gold medal (Salimi in 2012 and Moradi in 2016 were 99% safe) but I can say I'm 95% sure about these 2 guys winning a medal Hassan Yazdani (wrestling freestyle 86kg) - only one 86kg guy on planet earth can beat him Ali Davoudi (weightlifting +109kg) - can't beat Talakhadze for sure but a head and shoulder above the rest means he will win the silver hard to pick a 3rd one. we have world rank #1 in Karate but nothing is safe in that sport. so I go with this guy Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian (wrestling freestyle 97kg) - gold is really hard because of Sadulaev but I doubt he loses to anybody else
  24. as usual. one day before the event. sometimes in some competitions they announce the complete draw before the first day. apparently it won't be the case here. each day we will have the next day's competition draw.
  25. next, IOC will "advise" parents to only give birth to twins (1 boy , 1 girl) . giving birth to a boy is against gender equality. Bach really feels like he is the king of the universe. he can order whatever he wants.
