  1. Iran is going to host the 2022 Asian Men's Championship and our handball federation is looking for a coach, they were looking in past 1.5 years but still nothing. they claimed they will announce the coach "next week" something like 10 times already but that "next week" never arrived, under pressure from media finally our federation published a list of their candidates. they claim they were very close to sign with each one of these guys in past 18 months but all of them changed their minds in last moment before signing the contract! money was never the problem. it was mostly because of the coronavirus situation here David Davis Zlatko Babic Aron Kristjansson Fernando Barbeito Slavko Goluza Vladimir Sola Michael Biegler so there is a job opening here, if any of you guys know something about handball call our handball federation just being European is enough.
  2. I think you just made a mistake in your count because the numbers for each sport are correct. count it again. It is 65. Iran - 68 (1 Archery - 4 Athletics - 1 Badminton - 12 Basketball - 2 Boxing - 1 Canoeing - 1 Cycling - 3 Fencing - 3 Karate - 1 Rowing - 6 Shooting - 1 Swimming - 1 Table Tennis - 3 Taekwondo - 12 Volleyball - 2 Weighlifting - 11 Wrestling)
  3. -1 (weightlifting) now it's 65 (66 with reserves)
  4. updated list https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/07/Final-List-of-Qualified-Athletes_13072021.pdf Iran officially rejected women's +87kg quota. as I said before the girl (not knowing she will receive a quota few days later) had an unnecessary minor surgery, the quota is now going to Guatemala not sure if we have anymore changes here or not
  5. NBC will order FIBA/IOC to cancel the gold medal game. who cares about the rest of the world. no USA, no final.
  6. what I posted here is 99% correct. unless someone withdraws with a late injury. I think they will finalize the brackets and announce it officially couple days before the competition. I have to add that WT rejected Iran's protest about Hosseini's ranking points. 68kg bracket is 99% final too.
  7. ooff, never thought one day I will witness Italy winning back to back penalties. I watched Italy losing two Euro finals in 2000 and 2012, it was about time. and congrats to all Italian users here
  8. while I understand basic Arabic I'm not "that good" at it fortunately we have Arabic speaking users here to help btw it doesn't say anything about being Wild Card or not. it just says some guys are going to Tokyo
  9. now I know what happened here, this draw is final, no mistake here. Mirhashem Hosseini won the Beirut Open but since he wasn't allowed to participate they removed those 20pts from him. he got knocked out during the Asian Championship against a Korean athlete. and apparently there is a rule in WT that if you lose like that you HAVE to rest for one month (we have a similar rule in boxing) and Beirut Open was only 2-3 days after the Asian Champ. as simple as that Hosseini got himself the worst possible draw. I can't believe how unlucky we are in this Olympics and it's not even started yet
  10. oh boy. Iran had the potential (not a great chance in boxing but still) but thanks to our Mongolian hero and future Nobel prize winner Marius Vizer we won't have anybody in Judo in this Olympics and the next one and most probably in 2028 and 2032 and counting ...
  11. Women's 67kg: Jelic (1) vs Lee (16) Al-Sadeq (8) vs Titoneli (9) Tatar (4) vs Anyanacho (13) McPherson (5) vs Azizova (12) --- Gbagbi (2) vs Katoka (15) Zhang (7) vs Tursunkulova (10) Williams (3) vs Paseka (14) Wiet-Henin (6) vs Malak (11) Women's +67kg: Walkden (1) vs Avila (16) Deniz (8) vs Osipova (9) Kus (4) vs Traore (13) Lee (5) vs Stewart (12) --- Zheng (2) vs Ogallo (15) Acosta (7) vs Laurin (10) Mandic (3) vs Rodriguez (14) Kowalczuk (6) vs Oogink (11)
  12. Women's 49kg: Wongpattanakit (1) vs Semberg (16) or Stambaugh (17) Truong (8) vs Yong (9) Yamada (4) vs Su (13) Sim (5) vs El Bouchti (12) --- Bogdanovic (2) vs Cerezo (15) Wu (7) vs Pouryounes (10) Yildrim (3) vs Abdelsalam (14) Tomic (6) vs Ramirez (11) Women's 57kg: I think that extra match between #16 and #17 is probably the most "interesting" one Jones (1) vs Alizadeh (16) or Kiani (17) Zhou (8) vs Adamkiewicz (9) Hamada (4) vs Ben Yessouf (13) Minina (5) vs Tzeli (12) --- Ilgun (2) vs Hymer (15) Zolotic (7) vs Laaraj (10) Park (3) vs Aguirre (14) Lee (6) vs Lo (11)
  13. I wanted to make the same draw for all 8 weights but then after what I saw at 68kg ranking, I'm not sure if we can "trust" it. I checked other results and it seems they counted Beirut Open ranking points for everybody but Hosseini ! here in the results section, they show the Kazakhstani guy who lost to Hosseini in the SF (and not the final) as the gold medalist which makes me believe this is just a mistake. https://worldtkd.simplycompete.com/eventDetails/11eb6d2d-be04-22d1-baa4-0ae12d8ed753/6 I'm going to continue with the current ranking but keep in mind we can't fully trust it. men's 80kg: Khramtcov (1) vs Sawadogo (16) Martinez (8) vs Kanaet (9) Soares (4) vs Alessio (13) Eissa (5) vs Marton (12) --- Beigi (2) vs Liu (15) Rafalovich (7) vs Hernandez (10) Cisse (3) vs Mahboubi (14) El Sharbaty (6) vs Ordemann (11) men's +80kg: Larin (1) vs Mansouri (16) Tarjkovic (8) vs Obame (9) Sansores (4) vs Sapina (13) Cho (5) vs Sun (12) --- In (2) vs Taufatofua (15) Bachmann (7) vs Zhaparov (10) Alba (3) vs Georgievski (14) Issoufou (6) vs Gbane (11)
  14. I'm trying to predict the draw. based on WT rules the host athletes will get the 4th seed. and non-seeded athletes will be drawn. and I assume they will treat EOR athletes like the rest, giving them a seed based on their ranking so here is the "possible" men's 58kg draw Jang (1) vs Barbosa (16) Vicente (8) vs Braganca (9) Suzuki (4) vs Demse (13) Artamonov (5) vs Jendoubi (12) --- Dell'Aquila (2) vs Salim (15) Khalil (7) vs Sawekwiharee (10) Hadipour (3) vs Ochoa (14) Wooley (6) vs Guzman (11) ============================== and men's 68kg *** the last time I checked the WR Mirhashem Hosseini moved up 2 places after winning the G2 event in Beirut. but surprisingly they erased that result . I don't know if this is just a mistake or for whatever reason they don't consider Beirut Open results?! I will make this draw based on the current ranking which may not be correct. but if it's just a mistake Hosseini will be 6th, Achab 7th and Pontes 8th. no other change. there are two athletes from UZB and MLI without a ranking point (because they changed their weight late) since we have a so called "refugee" in the list which makes it 17, UZB and MLI most probably have to fight first and the winner enters the main round. Lee (1) vs Rashitov or Fofana (both unranked) Hosseini (8) vs Huang (9) Suzuki (4) vs Husic (13) Perez (5) vs Wael (12) --- Sinden (2) vs Burns (15) Pontes (7) vs Recber (10) Zhao (3) vs Sediqi (14) Achab (6) vs Pie (11)
  15. I believe so. that's clear in the rules
  16. Entry list for Taekwondo http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/att_file/news/TKW - Olympic athletes list_records and stats links.pdf I see only three changes (we already knew two of them) replaced Jesus Tortoas in men's 58kg with Adrian Vicente replaced Aliyah Shipman in women's 67kg with Lauren Lee also replaced Irem Yaman with Hetice Ilguin in women's 57kg I think now it's easy to "predict" the draw which will be completely based on 1st July ranking.
  17. what would happen in that case ? I highly doubt we would see withdrawals. am I right? and that was the only reason I was "very" interested in badminton draw. Badminton was the only "dangerous" draw for our athletes.
  18. There will be a mixed team event which will be held alongside the Olympic competition. apparently one match per day right before the "medal matches" they had the draw today vs / vs
  19. looks like we dodged the bullet now Aghaei can pack her bag for Tokyo and come back home with 1W and 1L.
  20. did VAR ever annulled a penalty unless it was a clear dive ? (I mean Neymar style dive) as far as I remember they only cancelled penalties for other reasons. (handball before the foul etc)
  21. do we know when we will have the draw? is it still 8 July (aka tomorrow)? did they announce a time ? live stream or something ?
  22. official entry list https://uww.org/article/tokyo2020-olympic-games-entries-0 only few changes and they are all listed in bold. mostly for Iran and USA and I reported them already. and as reported, Mijain Lopez will be in Tokyo for his 5th Olympics looking for his 4th gold medals which will make him the best male wrestler in history.
  23. Aiaal Lazarev (KGZ) officially replaced Sumit of India in men's 125kg freestyle
  24. also because Gianfranco Zola missed that penalty or because Vladimir Smicer scored that equalizer against Russia on 90th minute. still remember like it was yesterday. since folks in Iranian TV weren't aware of the new head to head rule. they were surprised why Italian fans in Old Trafford are upset and some of them are even crying their reaction was "Italy is in the next round. they just don't know that"
  25. I know how basketball is popular in China. some of our star players used to play in China (Haddadi still does) and they always complain that they are "more famous" in China than their own country well sports are not necessarily fair. we had our best ever team in 2011, they were dominating Asian teams at the time but had just one bad match against Jordan (and Jordan had a dream day from 3pts line) which helped China to qualify eventually. I guess 2020 was our turn to get lucky in this sport. the way China lost to Poland was kind of a miracle.
