  1. nope, hard to believe since they have naturalized athletes in other sports but in Handball they are all really from Bahrain. and Bahrain's population is smaller than my town maybe we should learn few things from their handball program. btw as far as I know most of them play for the same club. so they are more "prepared" they also have a good coach
  2. Milad Karimi from Kazakhstan made it to the finals in two apparatus. he has an Iranian father (and a Kazakh mother) few years ago his dad really wanted him to represent Iran, he came here and talked with our Gymnastics federation in two different times. it didn't work out and our federation eventually said "he is not really good enough" so the guy who according to our so-called experts wasn't good enough to make our Gymnastics team (which is very poor) is now in the Olympic final
  3. actually right before the last shot he asked his coach "do you want me to take this one with the left hand?" and he kept the pistol in his left hand for few seconds, for a second I really thought he is going to do that (he had 6-7 pts lead but still that's insane) fortunately he was just joking. our female shooter is OK, she made some World Cup finals here and there but she is far from his level. I don't think they have a big chance for medal, Foroughi most probably will celebrate too much and won't be focused but we will see. nothing is impossible in shooting. I will be very happy if they end up with the bronze. in that case you can take the gold
  4. wow. this was completely unexpected. beating the mighty Poland and I think Iran finally did it on the 7th match point my heart couldn't take it anymore Alekno
  5. Szilagyi and Samele eliminated all of our 3 fencers together and they both made it to the final at least it wasn't for nothing
  6. a fight between China and CIV is ongoing in "mixed team event" which is an exhibition event here. the commentator said that this event will make his debut in Paris 2024 ! probably he doesn't know IOC already announced the 2024 events
  7. nope, it wasn't really "easy", Guzman is a 2019 World medalist and your boy is a future star in this sport, Vito is just too good today.
  8. Congrats to Italy and Tunisia and also Spain and Thailand on the women's side. once again Olympic Taekwondo proved to be a completely different thing than other tournaments.
  9. that's what everybody asks here he is +40 but still very new to this sport. btw he is also a nurse and had a tough year (2 year actually) dealing with COVID patients too.
  10. you know I usually cheer for Italian athletes (unless they are against the Iranians) this injured Hadipour is not capable of beating Korea. so that's OK you can have it we already won that medal in the first day we always wanted
  11. never mind, it's not "easy" anymore. South Korea lost the semifinal
  12. Hadipour is fighting with a torn ACL, I knew Guzman will be too much for him. I guess nobody watched his defeat in Iran since we won a medal at the same time but can Guzman be nice and win the semifinal and put him back for the repechage ? the repechage looks "easy" for him if he gets the chance
  13. well exactly at the same time we lost two medal chances in Fencing and Taekwondo but right now who cares wow gold medal in shooting ! Foroughi was dominant this season but still this is Olympics. nobody really expected him to win a medal. I guess for few minutes Iran will be 2nd in the medal table. also this is the first time since 1976 that Iran win a medal in the first day of the Olympics
  14. as other user said, Iran doesn't face Israeli athletes, and only when they represent Israel (which is still stupid) I mean CZE basketball team has an Israeli head coach and that's no problem. we had footballers in European clubs with Israeli team mates. and it seems most people don't know that there are Jews in Iran. not too many but still.
  15. and why you were expecting anything else ?
  16. If having two flagbearers means gender equality why USA don't have two presidents ? male and female ? and why Mr Thomas Bach doesn't give half his power to a female IOC president ? hmm ? to me gender equality means people get credit for their quality and their achievements, not because of their gender. as simple as that. beside those pictograms segment which was fantastic, to me another good thing about the ceremony was limiting delegations to just 6 officials. I really hope they continue doing that or even makes it 0. I enjoy to see the athletes, not the coaches or officials.
  17. looks like Green is the only color in Turkmenistan, they never tried any other color anywhere
  18. I wish they would announce it earlier, that would change few things for our NT. some of our veterans wanted to retire from the NT after the Asian Cup, I don't think they stick around for another year, so Tokyo will be their last competition. but 2022 will be crazy, 2023 World Cup qualifiers, this event and the 2022 Asian Games. btw what's the chance of Asian Games not being cancelled/postponed ? is China determined to have that competition or it's more likely to get cancelled ? (which will be very sad)
  19. We will have 19 athletes + 6 officials in the opening ceremony the entire basketball team + 2 shooters + 2 taekwondo + 2 boxers + 1 rower the rest of our delegation either are not in Tokyo or will have their competitions on Saturday.
  20. ظاهرا خود شبکه ورزش نشون داده یه لینکی هم تو پیام خصوصی میفرستم اونم ظاهرا بد نیست
  21. FIBA postponed the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup to July 2022 http://www.fiba.basketball/news/fiba-asia-events-calendar-update terrible news for Iran, for our team that was the main tournament, not the Olympics (sounds crazy but yeah we knew we are going to lose to everybody in Tokyo) @Griff88 I assume that was a request from Indonesia, right ? because the same FIBA didn't postpone the FIBA women's Asian Cup
  22. Egypt used to have an OK team, I wonder why they gave up trying in this sport. @thepharoah is there any specific reason for that ?
  23. Iran's roster in Tokyo, US and France should be careful https://www.instagram.com/p/CRoql8QHNa-/ btw even being here was a miracle, thanks to Poland and Nigeria and also Venezuela some of our veterans deserved another Olympics for their last NT competition, so it was some kind of gift from nowhere for them there are 3 athletes in our whole delegation who didn't born in Iran, all of them in our basketball team. (they have Iranian fathers though) none of them are important or key players but having them in the final squad just shows our current situation. we couldn't find better players inside the country
  24. I don't know how someone can be against science (vaccination in this case) in 21st century according to our NOC president, nobody in our delegation even had to think twice about getting the vaccine. but what worries me is that some of them didn't really follow the COVID protocols in past couple of weeks. (probably stupidly thinking they are 100% safe with the vaccine) no problem so far but it's always possible to have the next positive case in our delegation
  25. because only 1 country was interested in those two continents.
