    Modern tactics always annoy me when specialist climbers lose a race because they leave it to 3k from the end to attack the non-climber in yellow, instead of attacking at the bottom of the climb with 12k to go.

    Yeah, you are right, that is what it was. The story I was trying to remember was that for a while she did both biathlon & XC. In the IBU on-screen graphics she was Mäkäräinen, but the next week whenever there was a team sprint or a 10k Individual Start the XC FIS on-screen graphics automatically and wrongly transliterated that to Maekaeraeinen. As I say, the English-speaking ES commentators never once realised that it was the same person.

    Sad, but I’m not surprised. Thought that she had left it one year too long, but she got a win this year and justified the season. She was a dual XC - biathlete for a long time in her career, but in XC she used the alias Mäkäräinen - a disguise which managed to fool more than one Eurosport commentator.

    I looked for it on YT earlier & couldn’t see it, but OC is free. Registration is voluntary. Works as an app or within a browser.

    And on the subject of funding: while badminton currently does not currently get funding as an elite sport in the UK, it does get a lot of money as a community sport. So there are good facilities, coaches, school lessons, local clubs etc etc.

    Golf: Women’s South African Open is still playing. English non-League football is still playing. Because English football works as a pyramid, this involves some clubs that were once famous names, now fallen on hard times.

    But in amateur three-round boxing it is the only quality that can be judged objectively. Like I say, in a corrupt sport you cannot rely on subjective judgements.
