  1. Oh, I know perfectly well, but no Greek person can make jokes about their history so…
  2. Strictly speaking, the first Olympic medal for Macedonia for 1500 years. They were the of circa 350BC - 150BC.
  3. Getting happier. Lots of very good British performances, competition is tight, lots of smaller nations doing well, upsets….
  4. Actually, I would much rather see men & women’s softball than softball & baseball. The virtue of softball is that the game is short & can be played in almost any outdoor sports stadium.
  5. Americans have two base runners in the sixth, one out. Japanese turn a great double play!
  6. It is. You sometimes get absolute skullduggery as well.
  7. Consolation bronze for Bianca Walkden in the Taekwando, we look to be heading for silver in the Dressage. Best ever finish in women's mountain bike....
  8. As expected, the Gold Medal game is really tight. Japan manufacture a run in the 4th, so it's up to America to find a response. Batting has been a problem all week though. Japan double their lead in the 5th.
  9. Unexpected success for Honduras.
  10. Hungary DQF in the men’s 4x200 Freestyle.
  11. Ricarda Funk takes it to the bridge!
  12. Obviously had taken some ridiculous gamble in the heat, is in much better form than that.
  13. Chad Le Clos in the 200m butterfly semis. Let’s hope he does his father proud. Jeez - he only just qualified in 16th!!
  14. But only if humans change horse. Horses can’t change their stupid human.
  15. Again, Summer Olympics. Kikan Randall for one is Alaskan, as are several other cross-country skiers.
  16. Appropriately enough, she swims for the Tsunami Swim Club. Better that keep that one quiet in , on second thoughts.
  17. Fiona Duffy went to school in Devon, England. Got this great post from a British athletics forum. She was Devon Under 15 Cross Champion (I think it was U/15, may have been U/17) back in the day when studying at Kelly College in Tavistock. (I only remember this as the athlete she beat into second was an athlete I was part of the support team for, and we thought she was nailed on for the title until Duffy appeared from nowhere)
  18. 1-2 for the Men with No Name.
  19. Three gold medals in less than 24 hours for Brits called Tom, surely a record.
  20. Yeah, like all sports in Japan, the clubs belong to the big industrial companies. They recruit lots of Pacific Islanders who qualify as Japanese after several years’ residence. But practically all countries in rugby do the same, even New Zealand.
  21. Indeed, seemingly this was the smallest (by population) country EVER to win an Olympic Gold.
  22. Klamer crosses the line in fourth: thinks she has won
