    Given the number of fallers who've been advanced to the semi-finals or finals here, does it mean that anyone who falls down in this race will automatically be awarded the gold medal?

    LIke I said, the penalty used to be - break pistol, pick up slug from table, load pistol, charge pistol, aim, fire - which was much better. Took a decent amount of time and could go wrong at any stage if it wasn't done properly.

    I did mention that the lady commentator is Heather Fell, Silver Medallist, GBR, Modern Pentathlon, Beijing 2008! So a bit Thomas Bach, really.

    They stupidly went over to laser shooting a few years back, which spoilt things. It used to be that you had to load a real pellet, which was slower and could be messed up if you were not careful, so bigger time gaps could be made up.

    Strangely, it does not work that way - horses will go on strike for one rider, absolute sweethearts for the next.

    Think we can add Kirsten Wild to the list of the athletes for whom these Olympics are one year too late.

    The history of athletics was that race walking actually preceded running as an organised sport. But as everyone says, the failure to produce a set of rules that can be regularly applied is killing the sport in an era of HDTV.
