  1. women's table tennis team men's table tennis team women's basketball team women's gymnastics team
  2. Glad to see Canadian representation in both the men’s and women‘s version of my favourite Olympic event (the steeplechase).
  3. I specifically chose the golf example because that isn’t a matter of cost for the NOC. And ya, in this case they wouldn’t even have to decline a quota, they could just pick a team that is one spot lower in the world ranking.
  4. Woke has gone too far, you can’t even rape a child and then go to the Olympics without people complaining smh. Legally there is nothing wrong going on, though if van de Velde qualifies for LA I certainly hope the US will denny him entry into the country. But morally, I think it does say something about the morals of the people running the Dutch NOC that they are more comfortable having an unrepentant child rapist on the team than a golfer that isn’t in the top 50 in the world ranking. I would be a bit more forgiving if this was an NOC like the US or Canada that rarely decline quotas, rather than an NOC like the Netherlands or New Zealand who routinely turn down quotas from athletes that might “embarrass” them.
  5. The top five seeds are from a random draw between continental champions.
  6. Probably would have been fine to have an unseeded draw…
  7. The only thing special or interesting about it is that it’s harder to fuck up for the organizers and the athletes than riding was :P This really feels like a bad / cheap American Ninja Warriors set.
  8. This is technically only decided on site, but logically it should be Dabrowski and FAA.
  9. This is a nice surprise This is only Raonic's second Olympics after having competed in 2012. I guess he only shows up when it's in a Grand Slam venue xD
  10. prob not feeling good about getting a lucky loser berth xD
  11. Even better - while Soccer has been used in a bunch of English speaking countries (even though it is slowly losing out to Football), Canada is, as far as I know, the only country where French speakers primarely refer to Association Football as Soccer.
  12. Nothing official yet.
  13. Pierce LePage got a medical exemption from having to compete at trials. This is quite concerning.
  14. 19 teams in the team event is pretty wild
  15. The US already had spare relay-only spots on women‘s side even before this. Based on their internal selection criteria I don’t think they will use them.
  16. I think breaking is… fine, actually. Not a fan but I think the hate for it is excessive.
  17. ItG was never that good but it somehow went far downhill over the past couple years.
  18. I feel very comfortable with Russia being banned because to me they were already “on probation” as far as sporting participation was concerned. I also think that a war of conquest is fundamentally different from, say, any recent American invasion. I don’t have a strong opinion on banning or not banning Israel, though if the UN determines Israel is committing a genocide then I don’t think there will he a choice but to ban them from International sports. I feel bad for certain Russian / Belorussian athletes for missing out but not others.
  19. Ya, I agree. There are so many legendary winter sport venues in Switzerland, the potential is there for it to be one of the all time great Winter Olympics.
  20. Oh ya, the Stockholm bid was far from perfect, but it was a complete bid. As opposed to being picked first and developing a bid second. I will also admit to being frustrated that the Alps will host three of the next four Winter Olympics, that seems truly excessive. Other mountain ranges exist.
  21. They had a perfectly good bid in Stockholm. What a joke this new bidding process is. I think this will be the worst Winter Games (giving Beijing a bit of a pass here because of COVID) since… the last time France hosted xD
  22. It's logistics. They are moving swimming to the opening ceremony venue, so they can't have it ready to host competition the next day.
  23. 38,000 seats for swimming is going to be insane! Other hugely important change - athletics will be in the first week and swimming will be in the second week. This is to acomodate the swimming venue also being used for the opening ceremony.
  24. This is the most relatable an Olympian will ever be. Hopefully she fully recovers quickly, but that sucks.
  25. Definitively seems like he's rounding into form at the right time.
