  1. Good news: Weston-Webb won her main round heat, so the winner of the heat between Dempfle-Olin and McDonagale qualifies for the Olympics.
  2. Depends, we don't know her next opponent yet. If Tatiana Weston-Webb wins the winner's final then Saona Dempfle-Olin only needs to win one more match. Otherwise she'll need to win two matches in a row.
  3. Finish ahead of Leilani McGonagle.
  4. Was nervous when Sanford lost a nervy and very even first round, but he rightfully won the second and third rounds on all the cards. All things considered qualifying only two boxers from Pan-ams is a bit disappointing but at least our two best boxers are going to Paris.
  5. They need to wear a gi jacket and a belt, but no reason to *have* to wear anything else, really.
  6. Heh, amusingly if there is one karate event I'd like to see in the Olympics it would be the team kata xD Kumite I couldn't care less for.
  7. This is obviously correct but does not go far enough :P
  8. I really do not understand the judging criteria in amateur boxing.
  9. And Canada's first male pistol shooter since 1992(!)
  10. Tugrul Ozer wins gold and an Olympic quota in the men's 10m air pistol!
  11. And that means the UN team can't compete at the Olympics at all, since Asia only has one spot in the OQT and Qatar finished too low at worlds to qualify from that route.
  12. Really not sure I would characterize Petanqui's bout as winnable, he seemed really outclassed.
  13. In the men's -71KG in boxing Petanqui is getting demolished by Rodriguez
  14. Sadly there is no 4th place in Badminton at the Pan-am games. That confuses our athletes and they end up accidentally winning gold.
  15. Fun fact about Naima - she is the daudghter of Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil (and a famously bad poker player).
  16. Scarlett Delgado loses against Bravo in the women's 54kg boxing quarterfinals on a very strange scorecard (3x 29-28 for Bravo and 2x 30-27 for Delgado)
  17. McColl will not grab the Olympic quota.
  18. McColl leads halfway through the men's climbing combined.
  19. All the sudden we might have a good medley relay.
  20. https://x.com/CBCOlympics/status/1715456643259892215?s=20
  21. I think a lot of NFL players will discover their eligibility for or citizenship.
  22. Bit of a damp squib to start the World Cup season as the big air finals are cancelled. Results are based on qualification. Women Mathilde Gremaud - 95.50 Tess Ledeux - 94.00 Sarah Hoefflin - 91.75 Men Dylan Deschamps (CAN) - 93.66 Daniel Bacher (AUT) - 92.00 Birk Ruud (NOR) - 91.00
  23. Probably a good thing. On a 23 woman roster you can sort of justify having her as a sub, but on the smaller, 18 woman Olympic roster? Ya...
  24. The big question is will Sinclair retire now or after the Olympics. IMO her being seleted for the Olympics at this point would be entirely sentimental (which on some level is understandable given all she's done for the sport in this country).
  25. I hope you got to see the women's team pursuit / women's hockey / men's 5000m relay golds live at least, because those were really nice (bouncing back in women's hockey, finally winning in women's team pursuit after having been so dominant for so many years, and re-establishing the Canadian dynasty in the men's 5000m while giving the best possible sendoff to one of Canada's great Olympian). ...it's just, ya know. Lots of frustrating near misses and underperformances too.
