    Pretty sure Puig got more recognition at home for winning Olympic gold than she would have gotten for winning a slam :P

    Very interesting that she seems to have gotten citizenship through a court ruling unrelated to her and not because the federal government made a special exception for her. Either way, very happy she gets to compete for Canada. I obviously have a special soft spot for athletes, especially when they compete for Canada.

    I actually have a friend in a similar situation (he would have been a Canadian citizen if his parents applied for it before he was 18) who hopes to immigrate some day.

    You mean in general, or in Handball specifically?

    I like team events :P The only team events in the winter Olympics where there is truly teamwork involves (excluding curling and hockey) are the short track relays and the team pursuit in speed skating, everything else is essentially just adding up times or scores.

    I really dislike the way they try to emulate the reaction start they have in luge. The reason it works so well in luge is because the race is fluid. Still happy there is a team event in skeleton, it just can’t really measure up to the team event in luge. I think the format would work better if they just made it a two heat race with one gender per heat and the second heat going from slowest to fastest.

    Random, but I did think one really good thing about the Tokyo Olympics was the bigger team sizes. Some sports (Soccer especially) have precariously small roster sizes. It's especially weird because alternates travel anyway, I don't think there is anything wrong putting them on the roster and letting them play as needed (make teams bear the expenses for those extra players for all I care).

    Men’s ski cross is honestly the hardest one. None of the Olympic champions have resumes that stand out all that much.

    The Whistler world cup featuring the first instance of a relay that includes the women's doubles (with the order being women's single, men's double, men's single and women's double). Nine countries took part with a full team of six athletes.

    It has also been 30 years since a athlete representing a country other than made the final.

    Real tragedy that Europe has to suffer a handful of Olympic sports where they aren't one of the two or three most important continents.

    It would be such a great moment if before the next Olympic ski scross final all four athletes looked at the official and said "can we have four golds?"

    Ya but a do or die 3rd place match is way more fun :P

    Unrelated, buy New York City could honnestly be a pretty intriguing winter Olympic host.

    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins the Northern Star award as Canada's athlete of the year. He was named as an NBA All-Star, the All-NBA first team and lead Canada to a bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup.

    I was really wondering what that was until they showed the replay and... ya, sure is a penalty.

    I find this a big amusing given she's extremely unlikely to even be in the conversation for the Northern Star Award (best Canadian athlete) or the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award (best Canadian female athlete).

    Based on how the 500m semis and finals went it really seems there isn't a lot of harmony between Lin and the Liu brothers.
