  1. being eliminated in the group stage is certainly somewhat of an upset.
  2. That's actually a lot less true now that they've changed the scoring system.
  3. In my case I'm in the PNW for the tech jobs and because I was running away from my ex, and without going to Alaska, Hawaii, Newfoundland or Northern Canada that was about as far as I could get from them xD
  4. We should have done a Totallympic meetup! @james89 @Josh
  5. I’d go further and say it’s quite disrespectful towards the competition itself to decline a quota in a situation where it just means a lesser athlete will get to compete. Really tired of the NOC’s selection procedures. In an era where gaining Olympic quotas in most sports is quite difficult they are completely unnecessary.
  6. Time to break out the flag again - Rikki Doak isn’t just from New Brunswick, she’s from my hometown (Fredericton)!
  7. Attending my first ever figure competition (Skate Canada Intl in Vancouver) and you’ll never guess it: in the very first figure skating event I see in person Madeline Schizas finished 4th! (it was a very good 4th tho, she was 8th after the short program)
  8. What’s up with Canada and being an absolute hazard in the Madison?
  9. It's a double elimination tournament with no winner's bracket advantage in the grand final. Young is out of contention for getting the Pan-am spot, ya. The quota will go to or .
  10. Good news: Weston-Webb won her main round heat, so the winner of the heat between Dempfle-Olin and McDonagale qualifies for the Olympics.
  11. Depends, we don't know her next opponent yet. If Tatiana Weston-Webb wins the winner's final then Saona Dempfle-Olin only needs to win one more match. Otherwise she'll need to win two matches in a row.
  12. Finish ahead of Leilani McGonagle.
  13. Was nervous when Sanford lost a nervy and very even first round, but he rightfully won the second and third rounds on all the cards. All things considered qualifying only two boxers from Pan-ams is a bit disappointing but at least our two best boxers are going to Paris.
  14. They need to wear a gi jacket and a belt, but no reason to *have* to wear anything else, really.
  15. Heh, amusingly if there is one karate event I'd like to see in the Olympics it would be the team kata xD Kumite I couldn't care less for.
  16. This is obviously correct but does not go far enough :P
  17. I really do not understand the judging criteria in amateur boxing.
  18. And Canada's first male pistol shooter since 1992(!)
  19. Tugrul Ozer wins gold and an Olympic quota in the men's 10m air pistol!
  20. And that means the UN team can't compete at the Olympics at all, since Asia only has one spot in the OQT and Qatar finished too low at worlds to qualify from that route.
  21. Really not sure I would characterize Petanqui's bout as winnable, he seemed really outclassed.
  22. In the men's -71KG in boxing Petanqui is getting demolished by Rodriguez
  23. Sadly there is no 4th place in Badminton at the Pan-am games. That confuses our athletes and they end up accidentally winning gold.
  24. Fun fact about Naima - she is the daudghter of Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil (and a famously bad poker player).
