  1. lol Garnbret is guaranteed to win the bouldering section with a boulder left to go. She has two tops, nobody else has any.
  2. Reminded me of the Australian leading the 20k race walk in Sydney being disqualified just as she was entering the stadium.
  3. Say what you will about skateboarding, they don't randomly give some of the 12 year old girls a skateboard that just doesn't work.
  4. This sport is honestly just a farce. The likely gold medallist is eliminated by the organizers.
  5. The horse lottery makes it more youth, gender equal and urban.
  6. The naming of the rounds only make sense in the sense that 1/32th final means you still have a 1/16th, 1/8th and so on finals. 1/32th final: 12 heats, winners move on. 4 repechage winners also move on. 1/16th final: 8 heats, winners move on. 4 repechage winners also move on. 1/8th final: 6 heats, winners move on. 2 repechage winners also move on. 1/4th final onward: best of three, no repechage.
  7. No this is the right thread to talk about eliminations.
  8. I mean @Dunadanpromised us a gold from her so obviously this is the boring expected result Edit: world feed commentator: "they haven't added the [women's] 50k to the Olympics yet" way to rub it in
  9. This race has not gone the way I expected it too xD The entertainment test passed, the major crash test... not so much.
  10. If I was Marina Carrier I'd be scared right about now.
  11. Canada is not entering anyone (despite being allowed to due to having a team pursuit squad) and I'm pretty sure it's because that race caused them both physical and mental trauma... But ya, my hope for that race is that there is actually some level of competitiveness. We shall see.
  12. I suspect the Dutch are about to win a gold medal in a long distance event in a little under an hour :P But ya, the Dutch dominance at these games is really only in the men's sprint events.
  13. Is this a bigger crowd than in Rio? xD Either way, I find this little downtown Sapporo race walking course fairly aesthetically pleasing.
  14. Ya, the Dutch are the new Brits when it comes to track cycling.
  15. Imagine what the poor breaking fans must feel like :P
  16. The whole bonus round thing is just so weird to me. That being said, seeing outdoor fencing is kind of neat.
  17. Ya and those are the events that are on the chopping block :/ But you know, as sad as I am to see the C-2 slalom being cut, they immediately eliminated the event from all International competition the moment it got removed from the Olympics, which to me is proof that the ICF didn't see much value for the event other than being a medal at the Olympics. As much as I dislike "extreme" canoeing as an event, it actually survived as a non-Olympic event, both inside and outside of the ICF (no joke the only time I've ever seen canooeing on American TV it was a non-ICF "extreme" canoeing race). Why couldn't C-2 slalom?
  18. Yes, and those are usually the events that are at risk when it comes time to make cuts. Generally speaking people saying that "this event being cut from the Olympics would kill said event" is, IMO, a pretty good indication that it's a good candidate for being eliminated from the Olympics. The IOC is ultimately not who is killing the 50k walk, it's WA that has wanted to get rid of it for ages. The 50km race walking event shouldn't need the Olympics to survive, the fact that there won't even be a world championship anymore proves that the IOC isn't to blame for the demise of the event.
  19. The other thing is that race walking is just, well, niche. It's not like long distance running, which is a mass participation sport that has a very well developed pro circuit. Race walking having three events is already somewhat generous given the number of people who practice the sport, whether competitively or recreationally.
  20. Does the swim even matter in modern pentathlon? A three second difference is only translating into six points.
  21. Do we even have any real prospects coming through the pipeline?
  22. Even taekwondo now has electronic scoring (which massively improved the sport), and that's a much harder technical problem.
  23. I mean it was exciting but it felt like who won had more to do with luck than with skill and form on the day.
