  1. Mixed gendered relays aren't really even as far as the importance of male and female athletes (or worse, in the swimming mixed medley relay, men who are good in specific strokes are more important than women who are good in specific strokes, and vice versa). It is especially blatant in the mixed snowboardcross relay, where the female athlete is just way more important than the male athlete, or in the short track mixed relay where the male athletes are way more important than the female athletes. This kind of strategy doesn't really bother me in the same way in a same gendered relay because there is actual strategy around the order, as opposed to mixed relays where the order is set, and one gender is just inherently more important than the other (or the order isn't set but there is definitively a specifi strategy that is better, like in the mixed medley relay in swimming). And anyway, relays are meant to demonstrate some amount of depth countries have, and mixed relays just don't do that as well. As for why most people here dislike the mixed 4x400m relay: it's redundent with the same gender relays that already exist, and the primary country in 400m running ( ) just doesn't think it matters enough, even at the Olympics, to take it seriously.
  2. Or, crazy idea, we could get rid of the mixed 4x400m.
  3. I’m honestly delighted by that result. It will give him a lot of confidence for Paris (especially after his specialty got discontinued from the Olympics) without creating pressure. I also really didn’t expect him to do this well tbh.
  4. It’s because Dutch people only commute by bike or by ice skates, so they don’t really learn how to walk on tarmac as kids.
  5. Ya. isn’t even trying to win this event and they are still consistently contenders.
  6. commentators with the reversed curse, they spent the entire third leg and the first 300m of the 4th leg talking about how Bol would eat the US anchor alive.
  7. Usually is an important word here *whistles innocently remembering how won the Olympics*
  8. As a fan of bobsleigh having the Olympics in St Moritz would not be the worst outcome, I’ve always wanted to see Olympic bobsleigh there. Obviously it would be somewhat less than ideal for Italy to not be able to have a sliding venue built in time.
  9. It’s really just a point race with extra steps (when the judges don’t f it up).
  10. Technically Canada only beat one team in the Tokyo knockout stages (and two across the whole tournament), but at least that one team was the :P (The 2020 Olympic gold medal was a total fluke, but there are other tournaments where the team should have done better, like the 2012 Olympics. That’s soccer for you)
  11. This relay could have an outside shot to win next year if Angus keeps improving and either Oleksiak or Ruck gets back to form.
  12. Good thing for us his parents never bothered to become US citizens xD
  13. Lol, rumors was they would represent . Guess that would have been too much a betrayal for Eteri’s daughter. (Davis is an American citizen, Smolkin has a green card and they both live in the US. Their link to Georgia is… one of Davis’ grandparenrs is from there.
  14. I would put the 200m Butterfly to 2, the 200m IM to 3 and the 400m free 4th, but otherwise... ya. We are looking fairly Summer dependant in 2024.
  15. Netball has no real interest in joining the Olympics, as evidenced by their complete lack of effort in developing the men’s game.
  16. This is also in the context of 2018 (where there was, realistically, only one viable bid) and 2030 (where it is very difficult to find an interested bidder).
  17. I think there is a real chance the Commonwealth games are done for tbh.
  18. Not a rumour: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/300929971/victoria-axes-hosting-of-commonwealth-games-in-2026
  19. Ya, apparently the main motivation for him getting French citizenship was to make it easier to live in France post-Brexit. He was already living in France for quite a few years.
  20. qualified to the Olympics in the women's 3m synchro. had a their worse dive in the final round, and they narrowly missed out.
  21. So, didn't realize that Gary Hunt, one of the great cliff diver of all times and a former competitor, was now competing for and attempting to go to the Olympics in the men's 10m synchro, hoping to make his Olympic debut at 40.
  22. Beck wins the first world title, with some clever tactics at the end. also qualifies, and looks like notched the last spot.
  23. Ya, and they don't even need to swim in the 800m or 1500m to be eligible - as long as they have the OQT in either they can just be a relay swimmer in the heats of the 4x200m relay, and then be eligible to compete in the 10km.
  24. qualified. First Olympic appearance for Ukraine, first apparence representing Europe for Israel (and second Olympics in a row where they qualify in a team sport).
  25. Really looks like everything is lining up for to host in 2030.
