  1. Sources tell Reuters the decision on which additional sports will be included in the LA 2028 program will be made on September 8th. https://www.reuters.com/article/olympics-2028-idCAKBN3061MC
  2. The - match that will decide a quarterfinal spot is really intriguing. It will be a nice surprise to see either of those teams make it.
  3. And of course chocked. As is tradition for this national team.
  4. Obviously are all European nations. Rowing is actually one of the few sport where every continent (counting North and South America as separate continents) has won an Olympic gold.
  5. Also, I think if we were to cut rowing events the "middle" events (the fours and the double scull) make the most sense to eliminate. It still leaves the smaller boats, where more nations are competitive, while also leaving the heavier, more spectacular and more prestigious classes. Eliminating the fours would also lead to more countries building eights.
  6. So few countries compete because everyone other than the biggest countries will naturaly focus on the pair and the four. Given the resources required the eight is very much an all or nothing proposition because it takes away athletes from two different Olympic events.
  7. Canada is not a race walking nation at all. We had a really good period in the mid 2010s (and Dunfee), but that's an outlier.
  8. This whole qualification system is just very unfair in general.
  9. I really enjoyed these championships. Politics aside (because I have some real problems with the current Hungarian government) I think Budapest is in a pretty good spot to win a 2036 Olympic bid if they want to go for it, with two very successful aquatic worlds and now there athletics worlds going so well.
  10. Who here predicted Canada would be second on the medal table?
  11. Ingebrigsten is clearly a 5000m specialist :P
  12. This was clearly a title won in spite of, rather than because of, the federation.
  13. It would be a different story if he immediately apologized and admitted wrongdoing, I think things could potentially have been worked out. But he tripled downed and lied through official channels. There is no way he can keep his job, frankly at this point I don’t know how he can work in Football at all for a while, if ever.
  14. I think it’s a good sign that we can have our men’s sprint team have a huge underperformance and… we still have by far our best worlds ever. Canada has real depth in athletics now.
  15. Marco Arop is my current pick for the Northern Star award (assuming no Canadian athlete does something unexpectedly impressive for the rest of the year). There is just so much depth in middle distance running, and this is a really unprecedented achievement for a Canadian athlete.
  16. Amazing victory for Arop!
  17. As a bonus they were in the wrong lane order too :P
  18. Official now. The final will be crazy.
  19. Will be disqualified for a changeover outside the zone… in a 4x400m O.o
  20. Besides, getting rid of the hammer throw would be a hate crime against Canadians.
  21. Seb Coe had an interview where he made two very interesting comments. The first is that he wants world championships on every non-Olympic year. The second is that less popular events are in real risk of being dropped from the program. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/entertainment/music/seb-coe-it-will-take-more-than-money-to-take-world-championships-to-saudi-arabia/ar-AA1fMmut
  22. At this, after so many cycles where the team underperformed, just an Olympic qualification would be satisfying.
  23. This includes every player who played at the World Cup. Everyone here who dismissed this as a minor issue or as being overblown really needs to do some serious soul searching imo.
  24. deserves this spot, but gosh is this a terrible Olympic qualification system.
  25. doing the double in the hammer throw. It feels very weird to say that.
