So… news from the EB. Some Milan 2026 events got changed at the request of the FIS. Cross Country Skiing: all men’s and women’s events contested over the same distance Alpine Skiing: the combined is now a team event (one downhiller and one slalom specialist) Nordic Combined: the team event is replaced by the team sprint (LH/2x7.5km) Ski Jumping: the men’s team event is replaced by the so-called super team event with two athletes per team. I hate the new ski jumping team event format. IMO the worst change the IOC has made to the Winter Olympics since I started following.

Every quota in surfing is nominative *except* the host quota and the two team quotas from the 2022 and 2024 world surfing games.

Looks like the FIS has also approved making the alpine combined a team event starting next season, so still one run of Downhill and one run of Slalom but now with a different athlete skiing each leg.

Some notes on this, in no real order: * Seems like it will be pretty hard to find a host for this, especially given ski flying is included. * Another step in the FIS growing their presence in freeride (hard to imagine they aren’t hoping to get this into the Olympics) * Mixed team event in dual moguls is exciting to me personally (would prefer a same gender team event but oh well) :P * Seems like the national team event in alpine skiing isn’t dead after all? I wonder if the FIS will change the format.

Reducing the number of teams that get to compete at a high level isn't going to improve the situation. If anything it will further increase the gap.

Shrinking the men's world series to 12 team next year is just a real sign World Rugby doesn't have a lot of faith in 7s imo.
