  1. The Whistler world cup featuring the first instance of a relay that includes the women's doubles (with the order being women's single, men's double, men's single and women's double). Nine countries took part with a full team of six athletes.
  2. It has also been 30 years since a athlete representing a country other than made the final.
  3. Real tragedy that Europe has to suffer a handful of Olympic sports where they aren't one of the two or three most important continents.
  4. It would be such a great moment if before the next Olympic ski scross final all four athletes looked at the official and said "can we have four golds?"
  5. Ya but a do or die 3rd place match is way more fun :P
  6. Unrelated, buy New York City could honnestly be a pretty intriguing winter Olympic host.
  7. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins the Northern Star award as Canada's athlete of the year. He was named as an NBA All-Star, the All-NBA first team and lead Canada to a bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup.
  8. I was really wondering what that was until they showed the replay and... ya, sure is a penalty.
  9. I find this a big amusing given she's extremely unlikely to even be in the conversation for the Northern Star Award (best Canadian athlete) or the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award (best Canadian female athlete).
  10. Based on how the 500m semis and finals went it really seems there isn't a lot of harmony between Lin and the Liu brothers.
  11. It's really nice to see continue doing well in skeleton.
  12. "Ukraine had threatened to boycott the Games if the ban was not upheld but Ukraine's sports minister Vadym Huttsait told Reuters in July it could drop that threat if Russian and Belarusian athletes were made to compete under a neutral flag"
  13. Orangehair has predicted boycotts and cancelations basically every single Olympics.
  14. I don't doubt is doing their best, but (or and for that matter) should simply not be allowed to be in the same group in this competition in years where Olympic qualification is on the line.
  15. This is what the FIS gets for getting rid of Lake Louise :P
  16. I'm very sad about Lake Louise being removed from the calendar, but I do like Tremblant as a venue.
  17. True. I would be happier about it if it wasn't the third Winter Olympics out of four hosted in the Alps (i.e. if Stockholm had gotten 2030). We are way overdue to go back to the Alps, but having Milan, Nice and Switzerland back to back only broken up by SLC seems like a bit much.
  18. Not hosting in Stockholm in 2030 feels like a real missed opportunity. The French bid winning 2030 feels very weird. I'm sure they will be perfectly good games. Switzerland being targeted for 2038 this far out also feels a bit weird. I really hate how little transparancy this process has.
  19. Would be insane for this information to leak this early. Usually if there is a leak it happens at the very last minute.
  20. It honnestly feels more like a way to let players skip the Olympics with everyone saving face than anything else.
  21. I, for one, am not upset that gets to host the least important (for swimming anyway) World Aquatics Championships ever.
