  1. I’m parodying one of our dear user who always comes up with creative reasons for why Olympics would be cancelled or boycotted.
  2. That's because Australians are invading Westerner Canada resort towns at the moment, and we just want them to go back home and stop stealing jobs from the traditional demographic that takes low paying jobs out West, Atlantic Canadians. We need to build a wall on our Western border to keep the wallabies out, and we'll get the kiwis to pay for it. Go to a ski resort in Banff, Canmore, Kelowna or Kamloops and all you hear are Australian accents. Cafes there sell foreign atrocities like flat whites and "brekkie sandwitches" and you're liable to have a conversation about how Australia beat India in the Cricket world cup on the chairlift (I really did have a conversation about the last Cricket world cup final with someone from Brisbane on a chairlift in Kelowna two weeks ago xD ) ...more seriously I'm not sure where you see animosity towards Australian here.
  3. Mild take: continental championships should never offer any world ranking points (unless the ranking system is some form of Elo-like system where points are awarded based strength of opposition and not by final ranking)
  4. I don't see anything terribly wrong with using QSAC for athletics and still having the existing Gabba for the ceremonies and cricket (because lets be honnest, cricket is going to be at the 2032 games :P ) I kind of like the idea of "The Olympic Stadium" not needing to be the venue for athletics.
  5. I hear it is also likely that the United Kingdom will boycot the games due to Australia considering becoming a Republic.
  6. So yes, removing the best event in swimming (that also has a ton of history behind it, and produced some of the best Olympic moments period) to replace it with a pale imitation. It's not like there isn't a ton of fat to cut elsewhere in swimming if we need to do that (and dear god we do need to get rid of the mixed medley relay)
  7. Are we really going to cut the best swimming event? We should get rid of literally any other event on the program (except the individual 100m free) before the 4x100m relay.
  8. I’m guessing if Russia is banned the spot will go to the highest ranked unqualified team in the world ranking?
  9. Rūta Meilutytė is the first reserve for the women's 100m breaststroke O.o
  10. If you are at this point I think you want to find a way to get this game to OT. (Incidentally, "smallest number of OT periods in wins" should be the first tie breaking criteria after head to head)
  11. This crowd is fantastic. Their team is really struggling, but there is still somewhat of a chance.
  12. I'm very happy Ilya Kharun's parents just never bothered to become naturalized US citizens xD
  13. No, if beats by exactly seven points and scores at least 73 points then is out. (I have no confidence my math / understanding of the rules is correct)
  14. Ya, because it's maybe the most famous upset in International football history (certainly the biggest upset in a World Cup final).
  15. This qualification format is so stupid. Neither nor deserved a quota from this xD
  16. Not really, and I don’t understand why anyone would be mad at the Spanish team. Spain did what it should do, take it easy and play this as a friendly. This is just inevitable with the format. Had Canada won the fame this morning then Spain would have won tonight and Japan would be out. if FIBA wants to avoid matches like this where only one team wants to win they need to revisit the format.
  17. Fun fact: this prediction is technically 100% wrong since artistic swimming no longer has a women’s team event. It is now technically a mixed event :3
  18. This is obviously BS, but it also demonstrates just how bad the scoring system for the team event is (and it really should change).
  19. From what I read before 2020 the women's qualification system was driven by a desire from national teams to have more meaningful games in the run-up to the Olympics. The old qualification system was much better and fairer on both the men's and women's side IMO.
  20. Summer McIntosh can now swim in the 10km at the Olympics if she feels like it :P
