  1. General At least one individual podium from Tokyo 2020 will be repeated (same people in the same positions). At least one individual medallist from Beijing 2008 will win an individual medal. Athletics Italy will win at least 5 medals. Fencing (Team events) At least one African team out of 6 will win its quarterfinal match (and so advance to the top 4). (Individual events) At least 2 out of the 6 individual 2023 World Champions will win gold.
  2. Ok but the premise was "no individual in...", team sports or team events are where most locks can be found.
  3. Bach will have an heart attack when they tell him.
  4. yes, shooting, golf, etc. are unpredictable. A lot of athletics and swimming events are predictable but you need to dominate to be considered a lock (Crouser, Duplantis, etc.). There's also rowing (ok, only singles since I was talking individuals), diving, some cycling. Those criteria that I wrote were a sort of reply to "locks" previously mentioned in the the thread in the omnium, 50m freestyle, tennis.
  5. They sell it as a forecast to be more attractive for the media but Gracenote's VMT is not a real forecast, they only take previous international (WCH, World Cups) results and weigh them. There is no way any algorithm of this kind could result in McIntosh being top 3 in those events. Most likely the only thing they added is a big boost to French athletes.
  6. People in the comments not understanding what she's talking about and saying "This is why the American trials system is better" 🤣
  7. No individual in: - bunch races; - knockout tournaments; - short races where you have only one attempt and one small mistake makes you lose should be considered a lock.
  8. So according to the small sample of votes here so far 82% Japan - Germany 18% 66% Italy - Netherlands 34% (the only case clearly against Gracenote's virtual medal tally: NED 17 gold medals, ITA 11) 81% Slovenia - Mexico 19% 12% Netherlands - GBR 88% 47% India - Ireland 53%
  9. [hide] *"Double-the-points" distributed as follow: Each user will have 3 during the Knockout stage. Each user will have to mark their matches with "Double-the-points" with an "*". Knockout Stage June 29th - July 14th, 2024 8 Nations, the Winners of each Quarterfinal will qualify for the Semifinals. Quarterfinals Date & Time (GMT +2) Nation 1 T1 T2 Nation 2 July 5th 2024, h. 18:00 Spain 1 1 Germany July 5th 2024, h. 21:00 Portugal 1 1 France July 6th 2024, h. 18:00 England 2 1 Switzerland July 6th 2024, h. 21:00 Netherlands 2 1 Turkey [/hide]
  10. yes, it should count (maximum one result in a 5 or 10km)
  11. Too many team events with , as for individuals just picking a couple of them Li Wenwen in weightlifting Crouser in shot put
  12. "a matter of costs", replacing a beach volleyball pair with another one doesn't make any difference
  13. I don't know if they are done updating it yet. I was checking Re in 400m and he went from 48th to 49th while I was looking at it
  14. I don't care about him (maybe he even likes to be insulted and called rapist, who knows) but this seems an unwise decision by the NOC, if the news spread the whole Dutch team won't be the people's favorite for sure. They must have some code of ethics that would have allowed them to pick Brouwer-Meeuwsen instead of this guy.
  15. Usually people say it's a matter of costs (I don't believe it), but given that at the Olympics accomodation for athletes and a certain number of personnel is provided by the organization, what do NOCs/National Federations have to pay to send an athlete a part from the travel?
  16. In Tokyo there was no draw for team events (what you say is true for individual events, and it will be the same for Paris). Here the rules for Paris https://static.fie.org/uploads/33/169707-Documents for Paris 2024 ang.pdf
  17. I didn't think any country would do this but here we are... B-Boy Shigekix and Misaki Emura (fencing) https://olympics.com/en/news/japan-paris-2024-flag-bearer-shigekix-emura-misaki
  18. ^It's good except for gymnastics which is completely messed up.
  19. Of that kind there are a lot more but I think the question was for the same podium in the same positions. Crouser-Kovacs-Walsh seems to be the only case individually: https://www.businessinsider.com/shot-put-olympians-won-same-medals-back-to-back-olympics-2021-8
  20. Oh shit, i got to 100+ years ago and forgot that so once so far.
  21. Women's foil 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7 Men's sabre 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7
  22. I checked individual athletics and swimming (and diving) events and I think there's never been a fully repeated podium in consecutive Olympics?* Maybe this time with only a 3 year gap it could be different but it seems mighty hard, I wonder how many times in happened across all sports (in individual events). *yes, exactly once, see below
  23. it's Italy that got worse... in top4 alongside Korea and Hungary you have USA and France. And France hasn't been that good as well, but they'll probably have a bit of help at home.
  24. Interesting question. A full podium repeat seems only realistic in team events/team sports so if I have to guess some I'll go with some swimming relay (men's 4x100m freestyle?) and for team sports with women's water polo. But "none" might be the most likely answer, it's a topic that would require a more lenghty research. that won't be possible, unless something very weird happens later today at the PanAmericans, due to their ranking Italy and Hungary will meet in the quarterfinals.
  25. Women's sabre 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7 Men's epee 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7
