I was bored so I tried to see if I can come up with a better system for predicting medals. Places like GraceNote essentially take the top three contenders and give them gold, silver and bronze. That tends to cause situations where a nation with a 50% chance to win say 12 events would be predicted to win 12 medals, but in reality they would only win six. Usually this is masked by the overall medal count, but it becomes apparent if you look at the details for individual sports.
Currently my model is quite early in development, it doesn't take into account the maximum athletes per nation in a specific event or the chances of an athlete to fail (DNS/DSQ/DNF etc). It also only currently works for events where you can obtain a score/time/measurement (placing/head to head events will have to wait).
Here's a sample of the men's 100m (top 5) that I was using as my test data.
Men's 100m
Gold
- 76.4%
- 17.8%
- 1.9%
- 1.5%
- 0.9%
Silver
- 60.6%
- 17.8%
- 5.8%
- 4.4%
- 4.2%
Bronze
- 46.0%
- 14.7%
- 9.9%
- 7.7%
- 6.3%
As mentioned above, the United States is currently a bit inflated due to more than three athletes contributing to its chances (removing them manually and redistributing it would give them 73.3%, 53.5% and 38.6% chances respectively).

IOC changed Olympic parade order, with future host nations entering right before the current host, how stupid is that.

This team quota and the one from North America are a complete joke... there should be a single team quota for the winner of the PanAm Games and no team quota at all for Oceania.

Some news from ODECABE - CACSO:
The first edition of the Central American and Caribbean Beach Games is going to be held in 2021, with Santa Marta being the only bidder so far. The "Centennial" edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2026 is likely to be awarded to León ; they probably will use the velodrome in Aguascalientes for track cycling and held other distribute other disciplines in other cities, all located 2 hours or less from the main host; beach events are likely to be held in Puerto Vallarta or Manzanillo, which are the closest sites. Three more sports were added to the 2022 sports program of the Games: Bodybuilding , Surfing and Netball, which was likely the input of the English Caribbean countries. -

Mexico has qualified for the 2020 World Qualification Event in both genders
Good result, considering it's the America's Challenge is the first tournament for both teams, even if they only had to beat one team to achieve qualification.

Creativity is very subjective. It's not only pictures and GIFS, we have plenty of creative users in this forum. So saying that he has the creativity of nearly all of us combined is a bit too far-fetched.

and here is the updated OQR after today's event...
1. Russia 286 (Q)
2. South Korea 224 (Q)
3. France 208 (Q)
4. Italy 202 (Q)
5. Ukraine 180 (Q as the best European team outside the top 4 overall)
6. Hungary 173
7. China 172 (Q as the best Asian team outside the top 4 overall)
8. United States 171 (Q as the best Panamerican team outside the top 4 overall)
9. Japan 147
10. Poland 127
11. Spain 124
12. Germany 120
13. Canada 117
14. Tunisia 107 (Q as the best African team outside the top 4 overall)
15. Turkey 105
16. Azerbaijan 99
17. Venezuela 94
as Italy are only a bunch of chokers, despite the 29 point-margin they still have over Hungary, there's a good chance we're going to have some dramatic final events for what concerns the European continental spot, with Ukraine and Hungary probably taking over Italy before the end of the race...
at that point, our only hope to qualify to the Games is the unsportsmanlike hope that Tunisia drop out of the top 16, which is actually quite possible, as TUR, AZE and VEN, if they are going to start all the remaining competitions, have very good chances to sum up a loto more points than TUN and eventually end up in front of them...
we'll see...

finally, some projected scores in women's team Foil before the finals are contested...
1. Russia 308/320
2. Italy 236/248
3. United States 216/220
4. France 212/216
5. Japan 182/183
6. Canada 172/174
7. South Korea 154/155
8. Poland 138/139
9. China 136/138
10. Germany 135/137
11. Hungary 135/137
12. Hong Kong 120/121
13. Ukraine 111/112
14. Spain 107/108
15. Egypt 76
15. Singapore 76
17. Chinese Taipei 74/75
18. Austria 73
19. Brazil 72
xx. Romania 57/58
not much to say in this case...the only big question is: "will at the end of race Egypt still be among the top 16?"...
my guess is "no", which means that probably we're going to see 1 more good team (KOR rather than another European one) among the Olympic participants instead of the very weak Egyptians...

Probably yes.
He is also trying to be sneaky though. Given the specific situation, he can both underscore and overscore his targets, and thus make himself look clean - even if the outcome of such judging doesn't make sense. This may sound paranoid, but I'm quite sure about it. Yesterday 4/5 judges had Senhorini as the best Brazilian. And that made sense, since Senhorini performed a relatively clean test, while the other two had big errors for which they fully deserved low 60s...
And Saleh? He put Senhorini way behind both Almeida and Oliva...
But then again, I always felt like the Olympic qualifications bring the worst in the officials, in all kinds of sports. Much more so than Olympics themselves.

close, but not quite! Australia gave Japan a good scare, as they took a 2-0 (soon to be 2-1) early lead that they could maintain until the 7th inning, when Japan took advantage of the lack of pitching depth of the Aussie team and tied the game.
Finally, in the 8th the hosts somehow also found the way to win today's match and keep their unbeaten record, together with Mexico and South Korea...
Final score, Japan, 3 b. Australia, 2

at the Tokyo Dome, instead, the Koreans didn't show any mercy against the young American team...
first, they hit a 3-run homer in the first inning and then their experienced pitchers gave the talented but still impatient and undisciplined US hitters a lesson on how to contain the opposing hitting power and how to limit the damage with runners on base...
as a result, the US boys, despite summin'up 13 hits and 16 left-on-base, could score only 1 run, which was definitely not enough to match the Koreans...
Final score, South Korea, 5 b. USA, 1

Mexico started their campaign in the Super-Round with a convincing win over Chinese Taipei, 2-0 the final score (with the 2 runs scored in the 5th and 6th inning against a fading starter, Chiang Shao-Ching...and a great team effort by the pitching staff, only 3 hits and 3 base-on-balls given up in total by the 6 guys who took the mound for MEX)...
so far, Mexico are undefeated and they're getting closer to earn the Olympic spot for the American continent (even if they still have to look at the US boys, who don't look so strong, but they're definitely not to be underestimated either)...
