  1. @phelpsIOC shrunk the 470 class into mixed only and you want them to stay progressive? It's mind-blowing how they butchered the programme and want to promote surfing which is highlights sport only. Most people have no clue about the surfing style points and you are stuck waiting 20 mins for a single wave. Ideal sport to go to the toilet or cook a meal and still nothing happens on the screen in the mean time

  2. @phelpsI presume billards isn't progressive enough to appeal to the mythical "urban sports" standard. After all those 15 year breakdancers wouldn't even be allowed into your local pub which billard is still stronly associated with. Same "problem" why darts won't become an Olympic sport anytime soon. The big trio of "pub sports" - cards, billard & darts i.e. associated with alcohol & tobacco smoking. Nope, not your IOC urban standard

Okay, but that is the majority of sports. I don’t think the Mesopotamians looked at a tree branch and said “I bet I could use this to vault over that bush over there.”

I enjoy most sports. The beauty of multi-sport games is the diversity of the program. I don’t particularly like field hockey or fencing, but don’t think they should be off the sports program because I don’t find them appealing when others do.

I would imagine there’s a significant crossover between WG and OG fans by the way. It was the public that was interested in things like breakdancing and sumo. Those drove tickets sales, with big tickets sports like lacrosse and ultimate frisbee drawing large crowds as well.

If you mean drawing crowds in the US-based World Games? Well, lacrosse is basically unknown in Europe and frisbee is well, a barbecue game. It's the same "problem" why netball is endemic to Australia, everyone else in the world prefers basketball and nobody calls for netball to replace it. The novelty of breakdance will wear out sooner or later, the same way the excitement over slalom in snowboarding (since replaced by the parallels). In 1998 it was the sport of the moment since everyone wanted to watch the novelty but only 20 years later it doesn't move a single needle anymore, even the less bally-hooed moguls remained more popular.

I mean…it’s the one dance discipline invited with purely competition in mind. It’s been around for decades, informally maybe, but it has a vibrant history of its own.

It was one of the only sports to sell out completely at The World Games last year.

So it should stay at World Games. If IOC thinks the future of Olympics is breakdance and e-sports then we might as well expect nordic walking too. Or maybe chess? Hell, maybe poker should be considered an Olympic sport too? :p

  5. Breakdance has zero history as a sport and it won't build any in the short attention span generation IMO. Latino dances have a better claim to become an Olympic sport.

Plus like I've said before, adults simply do NOT watch children doing sports unless they are parents of kids involved. There is no way getting around that. 15 year olds being world champions in breakdancing is a story but most people watching Olympics are... surprise, surprise... adults!

  6. This week's finals:

    Berlin 500

:CZE Petra Kvitova def. :CRO Donna Vekic 6-2 7-6(6)

    Birmingham 250

:LAT Jelena Ostapenko def. :CZE Barbora Krejcikova 7-6(8) 6-4

Fun fact: Kvitova and Ostapenko will meet in R1 in Eastbourne most likely on Tuesday. They actually played the 2022 final there.

Finland are 11 point back compared the calculations so this was "meant" to be a better day for them actually.

Antoher thing maybe someone knows , when givning out individual medals, not that I know if the athletes care, but do they also compare with the other divisions and there could be such results as the men's 800m where the winner comes from a lower ranked group?

Like mentioned above, medals are given based on results from all three divisions, so yeah, even a winner can come from Division II or III.

  8. Prigozhin has been talking negative things about the regular Army for some time. This suggests he is being allowed to say that by someone real high... i.e. Putin himself. Putin might not be able to openly criticize the Army since that might cause a true revolt but if a third party does that then it's suddenly Putin's gain.
