  1. It's all about expectations. Being a medal contender is one thing, being a gold medal favorite is something else.
  2. Yeah, Mihambo needs to handle the mental side of this one. If she blows it then it will be all between the ears. Ewa Swoboda 11,07 PB!
  3. I've seen 140 kg guys doing splits Just check some of defensive linemen from American football.
  4. Yeah, a group with the hosts is usually the easiest one in any given team sport tournament if that team ain't a powerhouse (and China obviously isn't).
  5. That was speculated after last year's World Champs since he like completely forgot how to ski in late February & March. He could have made his mind up back then already. And let's face it, despite all his wins and medals, he can't compete with the likes of Klammer or Maier for national icon status.
  6. McNally actually took a set away from her. Seems like another case of Serena blowing a set here & there to some teens or minnows b4 someone really whacks up her from QF onwards.

  8. There's the EURO part in Eurosport so they'll show mostly European players at any given Grand Slam. So expect more Wozniacki & Halep over the likes of Keys and even Stephens. It's the USO schedule that favors the local players who get the prime-time slots, no way Gauff vs Babos would be on one of showcourts without the Gauff hype and her being American too.
  9. Don't have to tell me that, I played 2 Unlimited, Ice MC or Captain Hollywood Project on my old school Grundig cassette recorder
  10. Gymnastics & figure skating are two events where athletes from former USSR can be naturalized into a new home. The same way Americans do in basketball and Chinese in table tennis. I mean there are more Chinese competing in table tennis European Champs than actual Europeans these days
  11. And how many of those basketball players were Americans with Jewish heritage who never lived like 5 seconds in Israel in first place? Maybe Israel finds enough gymnasts from former USSR to mount a run at an Olympic medal. I mean Shatilov has won medals at World Champs but he's probably too old now.
  12. In Poland it's called disco polo, basically old school hi-NRG disco that breaths italo disco from the 80s. Can't stand this trash but it's popular again over here (the first wave was in the 90s during the eurodance explosion in Europe). Anyway, the song is called "She would have wanted this" and 'this' means smoking pot, dancing, counting money and having sex (a lot of sex) Tbh this is the first time I hear this particular song and I feel like I wasted 3 minutes of my life now
  13. That's not really the reality in Central/Eastern Europe though. Oh, and Gypsies will almost certainly steal something from you even if it's of the lowest value. I once witnessed how they stole welding gloves of all fuckin' things
  14. If we lose to Italy and Russia beats Slovakia then we play Russia in the next round? Talk about stinking up the joint
  15. Support for Muslims could thrive in former colonial powers but Slovakia? Hell no. It's probably as laicized country as Czech Republic and you just don't see Muslims advocating their atheism. Their religion is part of the package.
  16. No negatives about Jews and people of different skin color but Gypsies & Muslims are right up there? That kinda cancels each other out
  17. Team Poland Point Guards: Lukasz Koszarek (Stelmet Zielona Gora) Kamil Laczynski (Slask Wroclaw) A.J. Slaughter (ASVEL Villeurbanne) Shooting Guards: Karol Gruszecki (Polski Cukier Torun) Mateusz Ponitka (Zenit St. Petersburg) Small Forwards: Michal Sokolowski (Stelmet Zielona Gora) Adam Waczynski (Unicaja Malaga) Power Forwards: Aleksander Balcerowski (Herbalife Gran Canaria) Aaron Cel (Polski Cukier Torun) Centers: Adam Hrycaniuk (Arka Gdynia) Damian Kulig (Polski Cukier Torun) Dominik Olejniczak (Florida State) Coach: Mike Taylor
  18. I just rewatched the final and our expert Tomasz Adamiec (former EC bronze medallist) says she lives in Japan full-time and is actually disliked by the Canadians because she allegedly takes the place away from Jessica Klimkait (at least for the Olympics anyway).
  19. Yeah, Arzamasova has been in the freezer for like 4 years already?
  20. Did the guy from Haiti last longer than the guy from Kiribati yesterday?
  21. Is she based in Canada though? I don't expect judo being remotely a thing over there
  22. Andreas Jonsson (speedway) 9x Grand Pix winner, 2011 World Championships runner-up has announced his retirement aged 38. Yeah, I know this guy is a total stranger for anyone living outside of Poland, Sweden & Denmark
  23. Yeah, Kowalczyk winning bronze & Yoshida not winning gold is the best case scenario. Though obviously this thing here was nothing like the Pawel Zagrodnik robbery vs master of all robbers Ebinuma at London OG 2012 Kowalczyk will only turn 22 next month so maybe we have a true elite talent on the women's side which we really lacked since the 90s (and I'm not talking Beata Maksymow who remains the last Polish judo World Champion but Ewa Larysa Krause who was way more talented before her career was tragically cut short).
