No way. 2 seconds is too much. The snow just does not suit her, exactly like in PyeongChang.
Sad, but what we can do. I was afraid we will never win an alpine skiing medal and sadly it looks I was correct.
Combined will save the day for sure - slalom also looks probable

Top 15 through. Hector & Brignone looking safe for medals. Truppe is the shaky pick but she has over a second on Worley. Hrovat is a DNF machine so who knows. Mowinckel also uncertain.
Holtmann crashes out from Top 5 one turn from the finish.

They should start showing one's position in the split times instead of just the gap to the leader. This complaint counts for several sports and also for World Cup events.
I don't need that. I remember when there were only two time splits during a technical run and no live timing. I don't need a position being given next to the time gap tbh. Modern society is way too entitled these days.

8th for Gasienica-Daniel. That's OK for a second run charge
-
Robinson was lucky not to crash out on the second gate. Nowhere after that.
-
Truppe into 2nd! Quite a shock!
-
Shiffrin DNF!!! Well, well, well! Carbon copy of Bassino.
-
Hector leads by 0,42 secs. #1 favorite delivers.
-
Worley 0,95 secs back. This open seetting almost look like a soft Super G and Brignone looks to have nailed it.
Bassino DNF. Just not in her head again.
-
Brignone 1,21 secs faster!!! Good lord, Vlhova's run looks even worse now.
-
Gisin 0,15 faster. Yeah, Vlhova's errors proved costly.
-
Vlhova with two errors. Hmm...

Two hours until 1st run of women's giant slalom. With the attention will be on Hector/Shiffrin/Vlhova for the big medals this is the time to remind everyone
best ever female result in WOG alpine skiing is 6th place (Malgorzata Tlałka, Sarajevo 1984 slalom). Any Top 10 result for the caterpillar will be a huge achievement in a sport even our federation doesn't give a damn about.

He does!
wins CAF 2021!
-
Sadio Mane to win it...
-
Penalty shoot-out! Both teams missed one already.

Nice to get a glimpse at the inner workings of your mind. The fact that you have to go back 16 years to find (in your mind) counterexamples doesn't lead to you maybe questioning your own position ... !? To add to that:
1) A lot of rule changes have been made since then (which might be the reason why you had to go back so far)
2) Benkovic was 18 at the time he won a medal, not really surprising he didn't have a ton of world cup podiums
3) Bystoel a) won a world cup right before his olympic gold and b) fucked up his career by being a notorious drunk (so not surprising that he didn't really display great consistency)
Wind still plays a major factor despite the compensation rule and it provides unexpected results on a regular basis. You probably forgot about the Pyeongchang NH wind lottery alltogether? And no compensation could prevent wind from having the last laugh there too

I don't follow luge outside of the Olympics but Repilov & Pavlichenko being so far back is a bit surprising? Or is the Russian luge programme slumping?
has a guy in luge these days?

If you think this is normal, then please look at past olympics. The guys who did well at the olympics always (at least at the last 3 olympics, i was too lazy to look back even further) had better world cup results.
Phasing out normal hill from World Cup in the last 30 years tends to throw up strange results during global events. Rok Benkovic is World Champion & Lars Bystoel an Olympic Champion on normal hill despite having a total of ONE World Cup podium between them
At least nobody can say Kobayashi is an accidental Olympic Champion.

Yeah, Poland not winning olympic edal in ski jumping, my ass
When I wrote never count Poland off when it comes to ski jumping, many laughed at me here.
Congrats neighbors both actually south-west and north
I suppose Michal Dolezal won't be fired after the season now. Most Polish fans expected zero medals in ski jumping here. This was supposed to be the end of the road for our 34 yo/average team. And it probably is. But we got one bronze as farewell.

To sum up the absurdity of this competition:
In 2nd place: Manuel Fettner (Best result this season was 5th, only one other top 10 result, 18th in the world cup)
In 3rd place: David Kubacki (Best result this season was 13th, only one other top 20 result, 37th in the world cup)
In 4th place: Peter Prevc (Best result this season was 6th, only one other top 10 result, 19th in the world cup)
In 5th place: Evgenii Klimov (Best result this season was 5th, no other top 10 result, 31st in the world cup)
Conclusion: The places 2 through 5 combined for ZERO podiums this season & a grand total of 5 top 10 results. For all of them it was their (tied) best result this season. Anyone who defends this farce obviously doesn't care about fairness in sports.
And we also had ZERO World Cup events on normal hill during the season

I guess all those 7 points are for 1-2 in men's luge?
