As with most of these sports I have no idea because I don't really follow them and don't even know most of the names :p From these lists I've heard of Kayaalp, Nabi, Beleniuk and Lorinz :d (and maybe some others but I see only first names, so no idea who they are)

Weirdly it's one of the sports where I know the fewest amount of athletes, yet are the most interested in to watch, so I'm specifically waiting to see what our Iranian friend says about the chances :cheer:

That's a shame, I was really looking forward to watching epic Lopez again :(

as usual, the draw could make any prediction impossible...

however, my picks:

-87kg: :HUN :UKR :GER :CRO not necessarily in this order

-130kg: :TUR safe gold, then :RUS :CUB and someone not in the list (thinking mainly of :UKR, but not only)

side poll: no, we live in 2020s...people might be able to choose where they want to live, practice sport and the Country they feel more obliged to and they want to represent...

of course it's Lopez in Tokyo. it was never supposed to be anybody else. (unless he gets injured) Oscar Pino was even training freestyle for the Olympics but when they registered him for the qualifiers, UWW told them he can't wrestle because technically he won the quota for Cuba in Greco-Roman (even if he is not going to use it) and one wrestler can't win two quotas.

in 87kg lots of better guys failed to qualify :RUS:TUR:ARM:IRI they all could be gold medal contender . among the qualified wrestlers I only see :UKR a head and shoulder above the rest. :BLR:HUN and :GEO are next best wrestlers to me.

of course in heavier weights lots of matches will finish 1-1 without anybody really scoring. luck will play a big factor here. :SRB qualified for the Olympics with this tactic of being passive intentionally in the first round just to receive the first caution, he may do that again in Tokyo. :GER is also a master of doing nothing and winning the matches on caution.

and for 130kg, I would say :CUB Lopez with no doubt but we didn't see him wrestling for a while and he is way heavier than 130kg. he has to cut weight which will take his energy, considering his age he is not unbeatable anymore. :TUR Kayaalp used to be much better but he looks really average and beatable nowadays. still I consider him the 2nd favorite. :RUS Semenov is clearly 3rd or maybe even 2nd ahead of Kayaalp. it's a bit hard to pick a 4th wrestler here, I believe that will be decided by someone 1-1 wins. but I had to pick one I would say :GEO

    • Unfortunate the way things worked out. Despite finishing 1st, Canada has to face the winner of Sweden/Scotland. But you have to beat the best to win anyway.    Edit: And it'll be Scotland, the only team Canada lost to in the round robin.
    • Russian gymnasts who have neutral status refused to take part in world cup because some gymnasts were denied neutral status. These idiots just piss me off

    • Kristian Gkolomeev (swimming)   He specialised in the men's 50 freestyle, was 5th in both Tokyo and Paris, won a world silver in 2019 and many European medals including gold last year.   He went to the Olympics 4 times. He is still only 31 years old but hinted at Paris being the end for him so I guess it should not be surprising, though he is still in his top form and given how close he was to winning an Olympic medal the last two times, I was hoping he would try again in 2028...
    • People are judging her but the truth is she has no points to defend after Wimbledon. She only played the Olympics where she lost in the third round and got injured, then withdrew from the North American swing (including two 1000s) except she tried to play the US Open and retired in her first round match, then missed the rest of the season (another two 1000s plus Guadalajara which was her best tournament regardless of it being the WTA Finals, 1000, or 500 as it is now).   She could've extended her injury break to be exactly 6 months as many players do to get a protected ranking, but she came back and risked missing big tournaments and having to play qualifying possibly. If anything she should be applauded for that.   It looks like she'll have to play qualifying in Rome and possibly Wimbledon for example, which she wouldn't have had to do if she abused the protected ranking system as many others do.   EDIT-Also she was still in the top 10 during both the Olympics and the US Open, so people writing that her ranking was already dropping are incorrect!

    • Different what the UK got on TNT where Steve Cram (The voice of Athletics on the BBC for the last 25 years) took part in the praising of the Atmosphere (Which sounded ridiculous as it wasn’t very good).   Some of the races were ok but it was so flat. The hurdles are a big flaw because 1 hurdle and 1 flat race is not a mixing of different categories and skills in the way the other events can be. 3000 and 5000m  be too similar   as well I think.    I don’t get why they started in Kingston. Anyone could tell it would struggle for attendance there more than in the USA.    Also I’m surprised Johnson invited Naser with her ban.
