Thats' not quite fair. Cycling NOCs have always been able to fill their quota places in one discipline from athletes named in another - The French famously tried it a few games ago the other way round I think, trying to use a Road berth to squeeze in another trackie.

we misread nothing. It was in the rules for more than 2 and half year. They just decided now to change the rule to afford only athletes who won quotas in idividual events to compete.

I agree. Rules were clear about this. Slovakia won those quotas fair and square.

It seems respectful of the rules to me, they have Dygert as +1 like Germany did, or Italy in men's. Then it's up to them to decide which 4 cyclists to start in the road race among the 5 they have- technically they could have entered Neben in the road race and then replace her with Dygert at any time.

Well, this is getting off topic, but the rules clearly state that no quota allocations are made specifically for the time trial. Any starter must come from the road race, or other cycling disciplines.

Does not apply for Amber Neben apparently.

Yes, and Dygert is in the Women's Team Pursuit, is she not?

Neben is the relevant party, not Dygert. She is not entered for anything else.

Shooting ....let me see if I understood .mixed medal if India has 2 individually qualified shooters in men's and women's 10 m pistol .....we get to send 2 teams ......  But if had a 25 MTR shooter shooting in 10 out of these we would be able to send only team....

Apparently the rules were changed and you can only enter one team per event except those countries that won spots at the worlds. They can enter 2.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Off to Milan for the 145th session of the International Olympic Committee. Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. This will be the eighth time the session is held in Italy, the last one being during the Turin 2006 Olympic Games.
