Men's Water Polo Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

I was in contact in one of Iran NT players in past few days, Iran Swimming federation talking to FINA and IOC in past couple of weeks, trying to convince them to have a match vs Kazakhstan and apparently they received some positive signs, the players were told to be ready to maybe play one match against Kazakhstan most probably in Moscow !

but now with the recent news about virus in Iran, it seems even our federation almost lost hope that FINA takes another decision. still nothing is officially confirmed by FINA but the players were told to keep training.

But China is still kicked out because we accept the women's quota? I saw the news China's NT player already back to China ( not sure the credibility). If so, they should already give up.

that's what our swimming federation claimed in the first place. they said all other Asian countries (including China ) was OK with the arrangement.

  • 2 weeks later...

Apparently they may use the results of the 2019 Worlds to determine qualifiers.

:CRO:GRE:GER would qualify in such scenario. :MNE would be out.

That would be awful, Montenegro is better than two of those teams.

That would be loads of luck for Germany after awful European Championships. In the condition they showed at the European they'd get three kicks in the ass by all three teams.

Well I think we should shut up, as the same criteria with the women would benefit Hungary :d

We should see how this Covid-2019 thing will go, but using the 2019 WCh ranking is maybe fairer than a OQT organized amid the whole Covid-19 chaos, with teams who dont know for the moment when or if the OQT is going to be held, etc. etc.

And all this rests on the assumption that there will be Olympics at some point of this year...

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
