Talk about a low-key celebration. She probably can't believe it.

The likes of Jankovic, Safina, Dementieva or even Radwanska must be shell-shocked how such a random name can win a GS title :p

And obviously Karolina Pliskova, probably the weakest WTA #1 ever.

Lol there are like 5-6 more interesting Czech players and Krejcikova is the one to win a GS :roflmao: I think she was playing ITF tournaments leading up to last years RG.

Last year it was COVID-affected but in 2019 she played random ITFs on clay before RG and got bounced by Robin Anderson in first round of qualifying.

She's a genuine doubles speciallist since 2016.

Like I said before: The quality might be at an all-time low. Pretty much all the consistent players are gone. Now is the chance for young players like Gauff to break through.

The Czech Republic (Noskova) also won the women’s junior competition! Noskova might not even be their biggest talent, Fruhvirtova is higher rated.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Well, at least Jankovic and Radwanska can say they faced Serena in their finals, but the other ones... Myskina :wall:

Roland Garros has been quite random for years as there hasn't been a dominant clay player since Henin retired and after Serena and Sharapova's peak passed. Halep could have been, but keeps losing to teenagers

Wimbledon, on the other hand, is the less random GS. I think the last non GS finalist that won a title was Kvitova in 2011 (and was already in SF the year before) and before that Sharapova in 2004.

There are very few clay speciallists in the women's game these days. And basically all of them are second-tier players who don't have a shot at winning GS anyway. Sharapova became a force on clay after years of being the "cow on ice" by her own accounts, RG was Serena's worst slam forever so she was never a clay speciallist to begin with, quite the contrary given mobility was never her strong suit. Simon Halep should be the next Henin but she's finding ways to lose matches Henin never would have.

Myskina was basically a more elegant & leaner version of Kuznetsova. Very accomplished player in the early/mid 00s. People don't remember her much anymore since she retired early with a chronic ankle injury.

iga can be the one , it doesn't mean that she lost this year that it's the end of the world , she can return stronger next year talking about clay , ofc on hard courts we have Osaka who can eat anybody alive , for grass after Serena and Venus there's none

    • Yes, he is ones of the first supporters of Milei, owner of one of the most important stock market of Argentina (Bull market), he was peronist and for "unknown reasons" start to be libertarian.   Even being libertarian in my case, i have to admit that him is one of the dumbest of "Milei supporters" and a clown when  he is in TV, he made me feel  embarrassed in many occasions.   Camila Giorgi being with him is.......inconceivable.
    • Ya but the replacement is Pat Bondi, a choice that is only better in so far as Pat Bondi isn't credibly accused of having had sex with multiple underaged girls.   Also, you might recognize this name: Pete Hoekstra has been nominated to be the US ambasador to Canada.
    • Camila Giorgi has a new BF Ramiro Marra. Apparently he's some politician/journalist from Argentina. One of Milei's supporters dare I say? @LDOG@konig
    • Skeleton Tour moves on to Yanqing  this weekend.  Asian Cup races tomorrow, then the World Cup on Saturday, and then possibly more Asian Cup next weekend before everyone moves over to Altenberg for the start of the full Skeleton / Bobsleigh tour again.
    • 2-1.   But it's good to have a great champion in the squad. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I wish we had such stars in every sport.
    • But he beat Mouat, who seems to be almost unbeatable
    • Argentina has a really solid lineup, especially if they have prepared seriously for this event. Of course they don't have a champion like we do, but in this format it is enough to win 1 match to play the decisive doubles.
    • Today we must to beat Argentina. It looks like Sinner will have to win all the singles and doubles for us to defend the title. So far, the 2nd and 3rd favorites before the tournament have already been eliminated: Esp and USA.
