I'm going to answer this as a tier list:

Mixed events that are must watch for me:

  • Badminton mixed doubles
  • Table tennis mixed doubles
  • Tennis mixed doubles
  • Triathlon mixed relay

Mixed events that I am not upset are in the Olympics:

  • Archery mixed team
  • Sailing mixed multihull
  • The three shooting mixed team events

Mixed events I don't believe should be in the Olympics:

  • Athletics mixed 4x400m relay
  • Judo mixed team event (the format is simply unfair)
  • Swimming mixed 4x100m medley relay

I am against the athletics and swimming mixed relays because they are essentially redundant (wouldn't be opposed to mixed relays that are markedly different from the same-gendered relays). I think the mixed judo team event has a fatally flawed format that has no place in a serious competition like the Olympics (too few weight classes and a very unfair mechanism to resolve 3-3 ties).

I’m completely fine with Mixed Events long as they don’t have comical formats, or make a joke of the sport. Essentially, if they work as a legitimate, competitive event...I’m cool with them being on the program.

So my favorites are:

Mixed Doubles (Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton)

Mixed Relay (Triathlon)

Nacra 17 (Sailing)

Mixed Recurve (Archery)

Agreed, which is why I don't much care for events where men and women compete against each other head-to-head (like in athletics). They often come across comical and are just insanely hard to follow, even worse when there is no set order.

Basically you just summed up what I had on my mind :lol:

Mixed relays in athletics are the worst, that's just 100% pure joke

Equestrian events are open, not mixed. There are no gender-assigned places as with the mixed team events.

Interesting! I never thought about it.

This makes aerobic gymnastics the only sport I know of that covers all of these categories.

1) There are gender-specific events: individual male and individual female;
2) There's a mixed pair event;
3) Trios, groups, dance and step events are open to any gender.

There was a mixed synchro trampoline event at the early World Championships ins the 1960s, but it has long been discontinued.

Any other "open" events in sports you know of?

    • Because of the low number of votes some categories may be cancelled (under the rule that at least two people should vote for a nominee). I may give a few more days for voting but I guess there's just no interest this year
    • In Italy in recent years there is simply been a problem with training new talents and looking at Colturi, the problem probably isn`t a lack of talented youngsters but poor training. Colturi and Collomb were at similar level a few years ago but where are they now? And this is the same year of born - 2006. Since Goggia and Brignone young time we haven`t trained a single champion. It`s the same with men. Vinatzer is wasting away and regressing in development, the same with della Vite in the giant slalom. The problem is it the outdated system which proved effective at the beginning of the 21st century but not now This also applies to other winter disciplines with a few exceptions.
    • Peterman/Gallant will be Canada’s Olympic representatives after defeating Homan/Bottcher 10-5 in the Mixed Doubles Olympic Trials Final.   Undefeated all week long, just incredible
    • Homan with a shot for 4 to make things interesting, but the red stone jams on the yellow stone in the back 8 and they only score the 2.   8-5 Peterman/Gallant with hammer coming home. Almost seems inevitable at this point.
    • Homan/Bottcher convert on their power-play, with a wide open draw for two. With how this game has been going, and that whiff by Brett, slightly underwhelming of a score but at least it’s something?   Peterman/Gallant up 6-3 and have the hammer in the 6th end.
    • Less NFL games in Top 100 only because it was the presidential elections year in USA
