Magnificent performance by Mexico

Alejandra Valencia 670, while Ana Vazquez and Valentina Vazquez at 667 in the ranking taking 4th, 5th, 6th position. I guess if they repeat the same performance next month they'll get easy matches and qualify and more importantly Aida Roman shouldn't join this team. @mrv86 Am I right

I think one or both out of Malaysia and Bangladesh will qualify. France can get 1 but definitely not giving a quota to Italy

Dont understand this...Just because there were not much archery matches happening and they are up in  the rankings dont make Bangladesh a world class team.

There's always a surprise during the final qualifier. So there will be some team definitely unexpected makes it.

Mauro Nespoli as I expected loses though he went beyond my expectations in reaching quarters. A great victory for Nicholas of US Virgin Islands @Olympian1010

Yes, he seems to be in good form.

I don’t want to jinx anything for him, so I’ll just leave it at that.

I think so too.

She’s been very inconsistent after Rio, often hitting 7 & 6, which of course left her last in consideration for making the team.

I was also impressed and proud with the other girls, and I hope Valencia can serve as a mentor to the other two girls.  Right now it seems Mexican women are a shoe in for a team spot.

Could anyone who watches archery nowadays confirm/deny this is a correct photo of Van der Ven? He looks so....completely different than at the previous Olympics :yikes: I mean, so different that I can't see any resemblence and seriously doubt if this photo is correct :d

I don't know why Aida is still on the team, with other ladies like our 2012 olympic bronze medalist they have never had any consideration and has been put out of the team but Aida have not produced any notable result since Rio where she bombed miserably and her press interviews and words were just awful and so full of ego that made me lost all the respect I had for her.

If Mexico gets the team spot for the Games I pray we don't have Roman in the team or we will suffer big time at the Olympics. I think that for 2 straight games our women's archery team have deserved that elusive medal and failed most in part thanks to low scoring arrows from who? Aida

Undoubtedly, she's gonna do more harm than good I fear. Without her the current squad could win should win an Olympic medal in team ,quite confident about that.

We do have a few missing teams though but without tournament practice I don't know what to say. They have made a Tokyo like field in their respective countries while Korea could be safe to win medal, not necessarily gold, competing with themselves and others is surely different. So that's something exciting to watch. I haven't seen much of Jang Minhee at the world circuit so now that she's selected I wonder about her nerves during Tokyo and her performance might decide where Korean Team stands at Olympics.

    • Well now's time for a little summary of my experience attending Stop 1.   Overall it was a nice experience, my first time visiting that venue in particular. It brought me some memories from my time at 2011 PanAm Games, seeing athletes from many countries. Now the venue is kind of dated, and it really needs some serious maintenance. For me it was unacceptable that the restrooms for the general public were in poor conditions, and also some sections need a fresh layer of paint, not to mention the heavy layer of dust in the ceiling. Thank God no debris fall in to the pool or on the spectators, but you may see a couple of pigeons continually flying around the swimming complex, even disrupting Mark Hrytsenko's last dive in 10m platform, before being sent away by Ruslan Ternovoi.   there was a pretty large number of Chinese fans on Saturday that came to support their team with flags & banners; however, their overall conduct was very poor, most of them crossing into the "top section" denying people who paid those tickets their rightful seats, ignoring and even shoving the few security elements at the venue and disrupting the general silence by replaying videos with loud sound or standing to take pictures while the divers were competing. Not that the Mexican fans were better; at times they were very disrespectful, particularly with divers preceding local competitors, since the cheered very loudly, ignoring the results (whether bad or good) of the former.   Among my personal highlights was the fact I had the opportunity to meet the Cuevas twins, who won a silver in 3m synchro and with only 14 are considered our next big stars in this sport, and also two time Olympic medalist in 10m synchro Alejandra Orozco, who was very active during the event, often oversawing and helping in any way needed, not to mention very kind and attentive to anyone asking for a photo. Also in attendance was Olympic figure skater Donovan Carrillo, whom I also asked for a photo.   I had an opportunity to see Maddison Keeney at the small cafeteria after winning a bronze in 3m synchro; she was very polite and gracious, accepting to take photos even when she needed to take a break and finish her sandwich; that same day I ran into Moritz Wesemann on my way back to my seat after getting a beer, and on the last day I almost bumped into Jack Laugher (he was going "incognito" mode while trying to decide what to grab from the food carts outside the main building).   So in general, I had a pleasant experience and would love to attend another event in the future. To top it off, there was a brief take of me during Sunday's men's 3m finals on WA stories, which of course I've already downloaded for keeps. I hope to find some time to upload some of the pictures I took; not the ones with me & above mentioned athletes since I'm not to photogenic, but of the few photos of the competition and the practice time that I find are worthy.
