the situation got complicated for 84kg/+84kg. :CRO Kvesic lost early but that doesn't really matter, he had to wait for Poursheib/Aktas results. :IRI Poursheib made it to the final to keep his hopes alive while :TUR Aktas lost the semifinal to :JPN Araga

Aktas was leading by 160pts. Poursheib will take his place in the ranking after the finals. but we still don't know by how much. Aktas still can make up for that at the Euro. after tomorrow we will know how much Aktas needs to surpass Poursheib and helps Kvesic and :IRI Ganjzadeh (at +84kg) to qualify

at the end of 68kg preliminaries :CHN Gong and :SUI Quirici advanced to the final, their final on Sunday will be somehow a direct Olympic qualification match.

Gong was leading by 637.5, if she wins the gold tomorrow, Quirici can qualify only and only by winning the gold in Euro.

if Quirici wins the final tomorrow she will cut down the gap to 397.5. in that case even a bronze in Euro will be enough for her. (or even a 5th place finish in case more than 32 athletes participate)

and I have to say Quirici won 3 matches here by Hantei (tied match decided by the refs) at least her semifinal against EGY was very dubious where she got the call 3 to 2.

As a Chinese maybe a little subjective to comment Quirici, but I do think she just won by fame and ranking. She went through the draw by 0-0, 0-0, 1-0 and 1-1 then reaching the final !!! So no matter the final result is, Gong Li can't get the ticket here and she has to wait...

despite losing the semifinal, :IRI Ganjzadeh secured the first place in the ranking for himself but that's not enough for the quota !! if Poursheib also finishes first at the 84kg ranking he will beat Ganjzadeh by having more points.

:GEO Arkania reached the final while :GER Horne will be in the bronze medal match, they will be very close in the ranking after this event, if Poursheib wins 84kg, they are both qualified, otherwise they will fight each other for the quota in the European Champs.

here is the women's +68kg after tonight, Hocaoglu made it to the final. she can adds 240 more to her tally tomorrow. Chatziliadou is in the bronze medal match and can add 120pts more.

Berultseva is out of the race, she is not European. Ferracuti will be out too if Hocaogly wins the gold tomorrow.

after all Hocaoglu is in the pole position and only Chatziliadou has a realistic chance to challenge her for the quota.

:KAZ Sofya Berultseva - 5677.5

:TUR Meltem Hocaoglu - 5857.5+240

:ITA Clio Ferracuti - 5017.5

:GRE Eleni Chatziliadou - 5355+120

Ferracuti is out in any case...we want Semeraro to qualify (I don't know why she didn't compete today, she was in Lisbon...I hope she didn't injured herself in the hours just before today's event)...:p

    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.
    • Medal Table (Change from 2022)    - 20 (+4)  - 13 (+1)  - 13 (+5)  - 9 (+7)  - 9 (=)  - 7 (+2)  - 7 (=)  - 6 (-2)  - 6 (-1)  - 5 (+1)  - 5 (+4)  - 4 (+1)  - 4 (-5)  - 3 (+2)  - 2 (=)  - 1 (=)  - 1 (+1)      -5,  -2,  -2,  -2, , -1, , -1, , -1 fail to male the list   On 1st glance 1 feel I have underestimated Canada, Sweden and Finland, and overestimated GB (obviously) and Netherlands.    If the Russians aren't competing then the Norwegians will have a field day in cross country skiing, but it is too early to tell.   World cups and championships aren't always the best measure for some sports but it's the best I can find.      As an overall trend I feel this will be a strong games for the European nations (home advantage) but the Asian nations might struggle, not necessarily at the extent I predicted here but I don't think their results will be as good as Beijing.

    • I don’t think that Scattolo would be slower/less competitive than multiple of your current starters, so as an Italian Coach I would Definitely give her a Chance in The World Cup.
    • Will be interesting To see if younger athletes Like Grotian or Tannheimer can keep their skiing speed After The christmas Break. In The Past younger athletes Like Grotian or Elvira Öberg often Lost their Speed over The Break.   Also interesting To see that Julia Kink is faster than Selina Grotian was last year, so hopefully Next year she will reach The Level that Grotian currently Has. I feel that Kink so far didn‘t get The results she would have Been Capable of.
    • Very early predictions for Team Germany: Julia Tannheimer will become The youngest ever Olympic medalist in biathlon Selina Grotian will become The third youngest ever Olympic medalist in biathlon Finn Sonnekalb will become The third youngest Olympic medalist in men’s Speed skating
