And you can see the results of it in Angola.... They seem to be a rich country, Luanda have tons of great business there (lots of portuguese companies have projects there) but the rest of it is serious poverty....

We can talk about results of Portuguese colonial control in Angola. Plus Portugal gave asylum to Bautista who was worst than Castro.

During communism Cuba was the largest supplier of oranges to Czechoslovakia. Yes, it´s true! But you can immagine, how it was a stupid idea and how many (FEW) in this case we actually really received those oranges, they were so few, that people were buying them mainly for the Christmas for example, and it was something really special to have Cuban orange or even more Cuban oranges at home during the christmas (well at this time it wasn´t called christmas but end years holidays), peoples looked on you like a very rich person...

Absolute stupid period it was...thanks god it will never return

It's interesting than many Eastern Block country in Europe was very poor in communist era, but people in former Yugoslavia lives very good in that time. Yugoslavia was only socialist country where you could buy all western products

We can talk as much as you want, because Portugal colonial war was due to our own "Fidel Castro" :)

He was not "communist", but he was also a dictator who called himself "a great leader". His name? Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, who ruled the country in an infamous dictatorship that brought war to the nation (he didn't want to release the colonies, unlike everyone else in Europe), later replaced by Marcelo Caetano, also "a great leader". Luckly our armies managed to kick them away and gave freedom to the nation, and that is the only reason I and everyone else in my country can speak what we want with real freedom.

So yes, "great leaders" like Fidel in Cuba or Eduardo dos Santos in Angola or our own Salazar in Portugal results in some rich people, but A LOT of poverty for their people

One example of our great leader, Salazar:

When everyone else released their colonies in India, our dictator refused to do so. And we only had 3 cities there, nothing else. We had only around 3000 soldiers. Those cities were completely surrounded by the Indian forces with - obviously - no chance of defending anything. And yet, he refused to give the cities to India, and gave the order to the cities commander: "I only want two type of result: winning soldiers, or dead soldiers".

Our commanded refused this order, to avoid a massacre, and he was punished by that.

By this example I think you can imagine how great he (and his regime) was....  My parents still have bad memories from that time....

you know we tried to follow your way in the 60s and tried a so-called Socialism with human face but you know what immediately happened our "Brothers" just had the extreme need to invade us during the night Warsaw pact occupation  under pretext of liberation Czechoslovakia from a war !!! this is what soviet soldiers in their tanks said to our peoples the morning, we are here to help you and stop the war...we never had any war since 1945

ex-Yougoslavia, Romania and East Germany are the only nations that resisted and refused to colaborate with the "ex-USSR big brother" to invade friends from a brotherly nation. and this is why czechs and slovaks will never forgot to ex-yu or Romanians their friendship. you are our friends, never war between our nations  and why majority of czechs and slovaks well...let say it mildly... live only for days when our hockey teams will beat ex-USSR nations :d

Well, Cuba was fighting the racist Apartheid Regime and the UNITA in Angola. Cuba also has a mucher higher standard of living than most other countries in Central America. Castro was fighting illiteracy and improved healthcare. Under his Leadership the lifes of most Cubans improved compared to the situation before he came to power. He was controversial for sure, but was not a bad leader overall.

Did western empires release their colony? They first looted everything they could rob, killed millions of people, draw artificial boundaries and than release continent? And still you take all the best from your former colonies and leave to them garbage and industrial waste. That is why Africa drowning in poverty today. Western countries never understand what is truly socialism, or they understand but wan't  to accept cuz it is in collision with neoliberal capitalism. And that's the reason why Muammar Gaddafi or Bashar Al Assad are "monsters" but Saudi's regime is great. I saw it as hypocrisy. As I wrote, Obama start with wars in Syria and Libya, Bill Clinton did the same in Afghanistan and Iraq, former British PM Tony Blair publicly admitted that he lied about Iraqi chemical weapons... and soooo on. Please don't give me all that shits that one side come from Hell and other one from Paradise.

Clinton Fondation today operates oil fields in Libya, Madeleine Albright is owner of Kosovo Telekom (guess what she was State Secretary in time when US bombed Serbia, and NATO general Wesley Clark who was main figure in Serbia bombing today is owner of several mines in Kosovo)...... My dear friend politics is business and business  is politick, everywhere and on every time.

That´s another great difference that was between us, we could not travel to the West without special permission. you received this permission only after long very long investigations of all your families and even then, you was afraid, if you´ll not return, your family members will have huge troubles... crazy considering Bratislava and Vienna are the nearest (nowadays Capital) cities in the world, and no one could not go there legally, ofc you could try to skip the barbed fences but you had to be careful to not be gunned down

But people were free to travel were they want. Of course, Tito was dictator but he developed entire country, education was free, health care too and were available to everyone. Today, if you are without money you can die, even from ordinary pneumonia.

We were on the West but we couldn't as well travel to outside the country without permission (because everyone was against the colonial war, so many people tried and left Portugal to live in France). Also we had a truly machist regime: womens could not travel without her husband permission.

P.S - I really find this interesting (and sad..), having people from all different countries of the world, and it seems all our nations had similar experiences with dictactorships (of different styles, our was not communist but a far-right one) in the nearby past..... One can learn a lot here in this forum :)
