And I'm sure lipstick & bikinis wouldn't fly in places like Yemen or Saudi Arabia but nobody calls this xenophobia

Ottoman Empire has tried to conquer Europe but thankfully failed in their plans.

Yeah. Other countries being bad doesn't mean that we should as well.

By the way, back in the old days

Jews fled to the Ottoman Empire (since you somehow thought you should bring them up)

Classic stuff. When niqab or burqa is going to be banned for security measures, some will against it with the views of "hey, a secular state shouldn't interfere in religious stuff". But they often ignore the fact of non-religious face coverings which are also banned together too.

they think that women burqa are terrorists while all the people who committed attacks were dressed with modern clothes

They mostly think it's a safety concern when one's complete face is invisible. There's something like being obligated to identify oneself when required, for example.

Africans are a bunch of monkeys and cannibals who don't even know how to wear shoes properly.

Spoiler

That is, according to one California governor, a certain Ronald Reagan.

Yeah that was like our last true Republican governor. We decided we weren’t about that after him.

If Ottoman Empire conquered Europe, we'd have a Muslim continent to deal with for sure. That didn't happen.

If Middle East countries refuse to accept otherwise liberal European culture why should Europe tolerate the very strict Muslim culture? It doesn't make any sense.

Well this election will feature race no matter what. The US will always have race issues until people like Trump seize to exist or reparations are given.

This race thing is equally useless as the Rooney Rule in the NFL. You should elect the best person for the job and not someone who has a trendy skin color. If your politics only comes down to race it's a really sign how useless this is. Though I can imagine religion will also be a part of this, no Catholics, Jews or Muslims because they would offend too many people.

The real race for Dems nomination won't start until the fall. Right now there are way too many candidates who are fighting against each other and giving Trump tremendous leeway. I think that's what helps this trend of re-elections of current presidents, the other party is too busy with a ton of useless candidates instead of focusing on the other guy in White House. Two years out you should have a firm candidate who would challenge Trump and instead it's a run of the mill string of mayors, governors and whomever else. This is where flaws of the democracy are at their peak. Trump has nothing to be worried about until Dems finally choose someone to challenge him.

Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia would like to disagree about the Ottoman part. (I’m a little rusty on my Balkan history, but I believe parts of Bulgaria were under Ottoman rule, or at least influence, too). In all fairness the Ottoman Empire and classic Islam were much more tolerant of Christians than Christians were of them. Western Colonization and the World Wars changed the Middle East for the worse. Europeans allowed for extremism to grow in the Middle East. I’d say their reactions to the west are fair in many ways actually.

It used too actually and @MHSN can back me up here. The Middle East was very different before 1915 and after 1960.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
