Pretty good comparaison as to what to expect in handball, ya. And just like the UK, the US is finding all sorts of dual nationals who play professionally in Europe, like Pál Merkovszky, Jonas Strömberg, Alexander Chan Blanco, Benjamin Edwards, Sean Corning, Paul Skorupa, Dániel Hunyadi, Aboubakar Foufana, Ian Hueter, Lukas Larlskov Hansen, Douglas Otterström, Rodrigo Campos, Patrick Hueter, Samuel Hoddersen and Domagoj Sršen. The US men's national team is sort of like a situation but without anyone being naturalized (everyone above is a US citizen either by parentage or due to having been born in the US). The women's team seems more homegrown, but it's definitively weaker too. -

Those US teams won't be *that* bad. Like, ya they will finish last by a decent margin, but they are still serious national teams that will be well prepared.

Rich Ruohonen qualifying for the Olympics as an alternate is kind of a cool story. Old school curling guy who's been in the American scene for decades, with a ton of runner up finishes at US nationals, making his Olympic debut at 54. Also very happy for my fellow Washingtonians Luc Violette and Ben Richardson.

I think (probably) if the FIL lets them enter 3 lugers in a race they must intend that up to 3 can qualify. Be nice if they gave us some rules. -

Handball literally gave Australia a host quota back in 2000 so they'll give it to anyone. Field hockey in comparison has been more restrictive. They require the United States to have a world ranking of at least 25, which the women should easily meet and the men are likely to meet. -

So USA is getting all the quotas, i wasn't sure about Handball and Men's Hockey, but looks like we are getting them, that will be quite embarrassing -

The rugby sevens qualifiers has a logic hole. In the past, in order to prevent a weak North American team from qualifying, they stipulate that should two North American nations qualifying through the World Series (basically Canada and the United States) then there won't be a direct qualifier. Here because they have the host quota at a lower priority the way it is written is if the United States finishes in the top 4 (and not Canada) then Canada would be unable to qualify through the continental qualifier. Of course, I doubt that is true (and this can be easily fixed by putting the host quota as the highest priority) and Canada will be allowed to qualify as normal. -

The continental quotas have a max of 1 athlete per NOC. As only Egypt is competitive, it makes sense for them to only get 1 quota. -

Yeah, it's quite an oversight. I can look past unlikely scenarios, for example what happens if the United States wins the 2026-27 Pro League, but Argentina qualifying through the Women's Pro League and winning gold at the Pan Am Games with the United States finishing second is a very likely scenario, possibly as high as a 50% chance.
