Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022 News

Recommended Posts

Beijing 2022 had the lowest key reveal (that I can remember) of their pictograms today. Here’s ITG’s article: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1102531/beijing-2022-unveil-pictograms

I haven’t been able to find any high quality images of them.

Edit: IOC finally posted them: https://www.olympic.org/news/beijing-2022-unveils-sports-pictograms-to-welcome-the-new-year

I like them. They have a distinct East Asian/Chinese look to them. I like the “positions/poses” they’ve chosen for each discipline. The pictograms do a good job of implying motion. I’ll need a while to warm up to the colors and shape, but I think those aspects of the design will grow on me overtime. My personal favorites are Figure Skating and Bobsleigh.

Paralympic pictograms are very well done as well.

Kinda (distantly) remind me of Lillehammer 1994

Yeah, it got those vibes too. It’s almost a mixture of Beijing 2008 and Lillehammer 1994. There’s some similarities to Harbin 2009 as well.

I really like the animated version of the pictograms.

I like the animated pictograms done by both Tokyo and Beijing. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if animated pictograms became the new norm (with still versions still available of course).

Those are awesome!! I like the animated ones better by far. I can do without the still ones.

The still ones are still nice as graphic representations for printed materials and whatnot.

I think the animated ones have good possibilities for use in broadcasting, social media, etc.

The idea of dynamic ones in broadcast is great, but on the website I'd still (nomen omen :P ) prefer the still ones as they are lighter for a device. While having at least four streams open (at Summer Olympics - very least), every KB of RAM is a precious thing.
