Women's Water Polo FINA Olympic Games Qualification Tournament 2021

Recommended Posts

I am so confused. All I know is that our girls have a chance to qualify for Tokyo, and I will be so happy if they make it.

In 2016 we beat Spain in the group stage but still didn't qualify and Spain qualified, so I'm not sure what to think.

no need to score own goals, just let Slovakia take easy open shots, score a goal to draw and repeat. Of course it will not happen but because we are stupid, not because we can't.

I understand your point obviously.

Well, Stupid or not. I just hope you will play at your 100 % and score as many goals as possible, it would definitely be much fairer also for our girls than not playing and just sabotage the match on purpose. playing against italy is an honor for our young girls and an experience these girls may very well never experience again, they definitely don't want you to play only for some 20% and give us such "fake win" gift

The match between ITA and SVK doesn't matter anymore: ITA wins the group based on the mutual result against France. Goal difference is not decisive. Netherlands will enter the Greece-side of the bracket. HUN and ITA on course for the deciding other match.

ok, please point out to the rule you are referring to in FINA rulebook then.

Taken from FINA RULES ON THE PREVENTION OF THE MANIPULATION OF COMPETITIONS:

PMC 3 VIOLATIONS

PMC 3.2 Manipulation of Competitions Directly or indirectly contriving or attempting to contrive the outcome or any other aspect of any Competition with the goal of obtaining a Benefit for oneself or for others.

The definitions are a bit vague, but still broad enough that they could punish if they wanted to.

It matter if ITA draws or loses because in that case they would be 2nd simply on points.

no worries, not gonna happen.

pretty sure this one will end ugly. 3rd day in a row against much much stronger opponents is too much for our young girls, this wil be a double digit blowout and Italy will score more than 20 for sure and even if they will run the score also in the last period, they may score more than 30 goals

don't worry guys...

Italy will never allow Slovakia to win today's game...surely they won't play as hard as if it was a decisive game and most likely we will rest our best girls not to risk any injury, but they will win by some margin in any case...

and if there's some justice up in the sky (I highly doubt, but never say never...), on Saturday Italy and Greece would eventually qualify to the Games at the expense of the unsportsmanlike behaviour of HUN and NED...:pope:

    • Honestly, I think you guys have a much better chance of success here than we do. It's already difficult to maintain this sport, and with this ridiculous format this year, things have gotten even worse. Years and years participating in the elite and we haven't been able to evolve; it was just a waste.

    • Another weak result for our athletics team, which is typical; without Caio or Alisson, our chances of a medal in any high-level tournament are almost zero.   However, Juliana's result in the women's pole vault was a great 7th place. She is improving rapidly and still has a lot of room for growth.

    • some changes in the team and less importance to the sport, the two big teams until 2022/2023 ( and ) in south america started to decrease a lot and in the other hand the 3rd in South America () is growing a lot, is really impressive. We are currently the favourites for the LA2028 quota
