Freestyle Skiing at the Winter Olympic Games 2018

Paul Eckert won the last world cup before the olympics, now he didn't even make it to the round of last 16. This perfectly sums up the olympics for Germany. Worst possible outcome in almost every event, surprised that some german athletes even managed to get to Pyeongchang, wouldn't have been surprised to hear that some forgot where the olympics take place and accidentally flew to Thailand or something like that ...

Who wants to tell him Germany is well within striking distance of setting the record for most gold medals in a single Winter Olympics?

Very hard to find someone to root for, hopefully no canadian or french victory here (although very unlikely). I think the slovakian guy winning gold would be the best thing, would be funny to see slovakia ahead of russia and china in the medal table at the end, but for that they need a gold and then they have to hope that russia and china won't win a gold medal in the next couple of days. Given the italian luck here, i wouldn't be surprised to see Kostner winning gold here as well, would be almost as funny as the whole story about Alex Schwazer ...

Who is him? You seem confused ...

Eckert was never a big favorite for a medal anyway, despite his Nakiska success. Maybe disappointing he didn’t qualify for 1/4 finals but he had Chapuis in his group and Duncan had a surprisingly amazing run.

Eckert’s run was bound to end in QFs with Chapuis, Ridzik and Place anyway.

Chapuis is out before the semifinals :yikes:

Only French guy in the semifinals is Bovolenta aka their worst chance at the medal, after they sweeped in Sochi.

With the exception of Ridzik, 2nd semifinal does feel awfully weak. Especially since I expected a VON, Chapuis, Ridzik, Wahrstoetter SF.

Now i have to assume that you are doing it on purpose ... right?

So his run was bound to end, because of Ridzik, Chapuis and Place, but then 2 of them don't even make the next round? Interesting ...

Also: "Duncan had a surprisingly amazing run", so Duncan who had to be considered a bigger outsider than Eckert, makes the semifinal, but Eckert's run was bound to end in the quartefinal? Interesting ... again.

    • Olivia Weaver was up 9-4 in the 5th game.  Hania El Hammamy  then scored 5 straight points to tie it up.  Then, took the lead with a sixth straight point, then won with a 7th straight point, taking the Sprott Tournament of Champions in New York.  Still, congrats to Weaver for bringing home second place!  (And congrats to El Hammamy...what a streak at the end!)
    • One thing working in our favor with Luge is that Women's Doubles is just one sled per NOC, so I like our chances there.  We'll be 3rd or 4th in the Relay (one of my favorite events)...if everyone slides cleanly, we'll probably be 4th, behind , , and ...but anything can happen in the relay.  (I think in my official predictions I had us 3rd.  Wishful thinking, I suppose.)
    • They can also just count DNSs to handle this specific situation.
    • I suspect IBSF will make the point system equal in the future regardless on the number of competitors.   My fear is that they will make the awarded points lower, like only 90 points to the winner to balance it out.
    • Olivia Asselin (freestyle skiing)   She was at the X Games competing this week. Another medal hope out the drain, she was in the form of her life
    • You'd have to ask her simpatic boyfriend from the USA about that, who is often seen at competitions with her participation
