lol just noticed that the ice dance competition has new leaders. Bobrova/Soloviev are the new leaders after short dance, previous leaders Cappellini/Lanotte got 1 point deduction after the revision by the judges later yesterday.

Disaster for Vrdoljak in short program, not even qualified for the free skate. :(

Oh well, looks like I should prepare for the very strong possibility of Croatia having a grand total of 6 athletes in 2 sports in Korea... My pessimistic prediction in the specified thread was 8 athletes.

our competitor beating only 2 opponents from Bulgaria and Austria...thats just to show how much droped a country with former olympic champion and 5 time european champion Ondrej Nepela and 2 others olympic medalists Karol Divín and Jozef Sabovčík...apart ice hockey the mens figure skating was our briliant winter sport glory, nowadays it´s just a shame and joke

Terrible moments for the Israeli Daniel Samohin :( He lost his luggages with his skates :( They didn´t find them, so the organizers lent him a new pair, but ofc this is a huge disadvantage and it was visible he couldn´t even skate decently, not questions about jumps, true sport tragedy for the junior world champion...

but still he beat our athlete :roflmao:

So, the brief review of yesterday, Evgenia Medvedeva the 17 years old Russian marvel defended (in a new World record 150.79 in free skate and 228.56 in total) her title and became once again european champion in front of her teammate Anna Pogorilaya, Bronze medal go to Italy after another epic performance of the Sochi 2014 bronze medalist Carolina Kostner.

Once again I must mention the historic best result of slovak women figure skater with a beautiful 6th place of Nicole Rajičová.

Last 2 Golds of this years European Championships went to France and Spain. The French Dance pair Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron won their 3rd european title in a row. Silver go to Italy and their pair Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte and Bronze for Russia Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev.

16th place for our new formed pair Lucie Myslivečková/Lukáš Csolley isn´t bad for a debut, but thats really pitty especially for Lukáš who was last years used to be much higher with Federic Testa his previous partner, now the dream and goal is to qualify for the olympics, it´s going to be a hard task

Javier Fernandez of Spain as expected and fully deserved defended once again his continental title and triumphed for the 5th time in a row a real legend he tied the achievement of our Ondrej Nepela (1969-1973) The remaining medals go to Russia, Silver for Maxim Kovtun and Bronze for Mikhail Kolyada.

    • Though I did just see that today's race isn't valid for FIS points.
    • Let's not act as if these things never happen before. Serbia's cross-country skiing drama a week before the Olympic qualifying for Beijing ended: FIS | Cross-Country Results - Zlatibor (SRB) 2021/2022   Drndic with a DNF, despite being - on paper at least - the best athlete. She didn't just 'not finish', she stepped out barely 50 meters before the finish, because if finishing, the points for her competitor would have been better due to the way points are calculated. Ended up with lots and lots of yelling and screaming and fighting and cursing, DNS the next day and in the end Serbia sent none of them.   This is not a shit move by Canada, this is a fault of the system at most.
    • Yes agreed, resetting it would help make it more dramatic as no one would be running away with it. We could also set it that there is a small reward for ranking higher after each round… maybe they start the next round with a “head start” so they bring a few points into the next round? But starting from scratch each round might be cleaner
    • I like the concept a lot. My only worry would be that the nations doing the best individually would also end up at the top here as teams are only made up of pairs. Whereas in a bigger team it gives the nations not doing so well individually to have another chance if they are lucky enough to be placed in a good team. Any way we can balance it?
    • I thought about accumulating, but for higher drama it may be reset like in cycling track elimination races
    • Those are the national junior championships, national championships are in Steinkjer, starting tomorrow: FIS | Steinkjer (NOR) - Event Details - Cross-Country
    • Nice for them, but also kind of too bad they pick the exact same two as last time. Would have been nice to see Regina Martinez for example (although I'm not sure that would have been logistically possible, depending on how they're going to do the flag bearer thing in the first place).
