wtf no Afghanistan???

what were they smoking?

I would assume that they didn't apply. They were probably quite confident about qualifying.

Meanwhile, well done :SOM:HON:HAI:NEP

It's pretty much nothing what we expected. :d And this is great for Somalia. They made their Olympic debut in 1972, but athletics is the only sport so far in which they competed!

Somalia is the bigger shocker (you could at least sort of defend the others), it was a very competitive weightclass. Even if it had to be an African athlete did Central African Republic, Benin, Madagascar, Congo DR, Togo, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, Swaziland or Lesotho not apply? Especially Central African Republic which was one win away from qualifying.

Well perhaps the fact that they never competed outside of athletics helped (Saint Kitts and Nevis is the only other such country, even Mauritania is not on that list). Plus, this is certainly the only sport they applied for so it was on top of their priority list.

Meanwhile, I'm actually happy that Macedonia didn't get it. Their girl may be the highest ranked, but their girl is actually Croatian who switched to Macedonia because she can't make our team. It would be very wrong if wild cards are given to athletes like her.

True, plus the tripartite commission looks at all sports at the same time. I wish the commission would publish the list of nations which applied to each sport. It would be interesting to see which nations applied

They are really secretive about this. Thought Agenda 2020 was going to have transparency, but I guess not.

WTF probably thinks Afghanistan doesn't deserve any help because of their cheating few years ago, Afghanistan used some overaged athletes in Youth competitions which easily detected by WTF and some of those guys got banned

they gave a Wild Card to Afghanistan back in 2008 even when they qualified one athlete by merit.

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
