It is true that my country has done a LOT of shitty things to indigenous peoples. Therefore, giving them representation in a sport born from their culture at an edition in our nation seems like a positive step forward in reconciliation.

How is "having them compite under a different flag" is giving them any representation?? I dont get that point

It's quite literally giving them representation under their own flag as their own people (should they qualify).

Obviously this is a complete non-starter of an idea because of the precedent it would set if the Iroquois could compete independently.

If them then why not Catalunya?, why not Euskadi? Brittany, Corsica, Occitania, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Scotland, Wales, the Falkland Islands/Malvinas, Tibet?

Quebec, the Navajo nation, Somaliland, Western Sahara? etc, etc, etc

Ultimately, I think the IOC is going to be the one forced to say no. It doesn't seem like the U.S.. government/NOC or Canadian government/NOC want to risk the political blowback domestically. World Lacrosse doesn't seem to keen to intervene after the The World Games uproar. Of course, much can change in the lead up to the Games.

At present, I feel like it will come down to how much domestic support the IOC risks losing barring the Haudenosaunee from competing as a separate entity.

Let them compete instead of the US team or the Canadian team. Just as England/Scotland represent UK in a number of team sports. Let Haudenosaunee represent USA (or Canada) in Lacrosse.

I could see a compromise where a Haudenosaunee team would play a ceremonial game to start off the tournament

Becoming more and more clear Trump will ban some countries from the Olympics if he is president in 2028. Are the IOC ready to see countries like Iran banned from competing?

I like to be prepared for the possibility that the IOC will have to decide between accepting some countires being banned for cancelling the games,

    • Makes it extra tragic that she's still quite likely to not actually make it due to Leerdam most likely making it anyway despite falling...seems like everyone there just automatically assumed her 2nd place will be enough and started celebrating
    • Stage 14 in Semmering (AUT)   Women´s Giant Slalom:   1. Julia Scheib    1:56.46 2. Camille Rast    1:56.60 3. Sara Hector   1:56.86   Full Final Results HERE
    • Stage 13 in Livigno (ITA)   Men´s Super-G:   1. Marco Schwarz    1:10.33 2. Alexis Monney   1:10.53 3. Franjo Von Allmen   1:10.58   Full Final Results HERE
    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
