Synchronized skating? They got rid of the compulsory figures years ago to push for this crap?

Gotta love all the talk about luge & their quotas. At the end of the day it will still be Germany winning all the golds so by the hell bother?

There's always the more exciting competition which nation finishes highest among those without an operation track. Poland always aims for the podium in that event!

It obviously used to be different, but because of recent years I hadn't gotten myself to watching the press conference out of pure fear of what we were going to lose this time. Now I was quickly watching though, and....it doesn't seem to be all that bad at all??

Alpine mixed team gone, considering the non-stop criticism on that event I don't think many people will be sad about it...I know I'm not. And that's it in terms of losing events?!

Four fewer spots in skating, alright. Some things added that don't really add anything, like the dual moguls events, alright. Doubles being split in men's doubles and women's doubles in luge...alright, I guess. I mean, it's way too early to have a competitive women's doubles event, 2030 would have been better, but there you go. Skeleton mixed team..fine, it doesn't cost us an event, so alright. Ski mountaineering as we knew, alright. Probably won't really watch it so I don't mind.

Couple of spots fewer here and there, specifically skiing. Which is of course my main focus (women's cross-country, specifically), but overall doesn't seem to be too bad.

I'm relieved :d

Except, you know, Nordic combined losing about 33% of their total quota and the relay event getting massacred. There will be 6 nations allowed to make start at best. Not worthy of the Olympics anymore.

Right, I hadn't seen the details. So most of the 24 quota reduction in skiing comes from the combined?

Not that I agree, or think it's good, but at the very least having 6 nations instead of 10 in the relay will result in...well, exactly the same nations in the top. And with 6 nations, there's still going to be 2 who won't be there for the medals, but to fight amongst each other to not be last, unless something weird happens in the next few years :p

I mean, I find Nordic Combined kind of boring these days because of so few nations actually showing interest, and I'm not a huge fan of jumping, but it is again an interesting traditional combined sport slowly being pushed towards the imminent shredder.

Apart from the NC being butchered it isn't that bad at all.

Oh well. For me it is always interesting to follow the battle for 5th, 6th or 8th place as well. Nordic combined relay has that unique distinction where lapped teams are not removed from the race, hence why there is always a nice wait for the weakest of teams.

I thought this was the general sentiment around the Totallympics (caring for more than just medal placings), but alright. :p

Oh I definitely care for more than medal places, and like I said, personally I don't agree with this whole thing. I only meant the general look of the race itself just won't really change that much, especially during an Olympics where (speaking for myself here) I don't wait for 10+ minutes after a finish because there's almost always something else to watch :p

Synchronized skating is much more newb-friendly than the ice dance. ;)

Is there any very early draft version of 26 games schedule available yet???

no, also because we don't know where some sports are going to be hosted (it's almost sure that Speedskating won't be in Baselga, for instance).

as usual, Italy is way, way late in the organizing questions... :wall: :hairpull:
