Gymnastics - Rhythmic Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to Milano Cortina 2026

Sadly that won't have :POL Liliana Lewińska reinstated for the Olympics (she was the one robbed at the expense of the Russian representing :CYP ).

Nothing to see here anyway. Gymnastics is one of the last sports where you have judges openly manipulating the results and nobody really cares. Trikomiti should be banned for life but yeah, let's move on.

Not so surpised after what i saw in Paris.

So many strange calls last summer.

Judges have way more freedom than they should have.

After yet another scandal (we now have one every month), Italy will not take part in the first World Cup stages

What happened?

it's always all about the "USSR-alike" methods used by the coaching duo Maccarani/Tishina at their National Academy

now some leaked phone calls have shown the former Federation's president commenting on the girls with sexist expressions and things like that

moreover, it's been discovered that also Raffaeli and Baldassari were treated like the team by their coach Julieta Cantalupi, forced to get naked in public after missing some exercise in training or kept for hours closed in a dark and cold small room in punishment after a not satisfactory training section

basically, all the Italian stars of the Rhythmic Gymnastics have come to success only after and possibly because of unacceptable humiliation by the coaches, which looks to be the usual attitude also among the youngsters and the "amateur" clubs

Italian Rhythmic Gymnastics is a dirty, sick world  :hairpull:

now the Group is basically not active and doesn't go to the next world cup stages, Baldassarri has retired and Raffaeli looks to be happy with her new coach (the Goddess herself, Claudia Mancinelli) after Cantalupi ran away like a rabbit to Israel in Autumn 2023 after the first rumors about the scandals came out

In fact, according to some first-hand reports, female athletes mutinied protesting Maccarani's dismissal. And even Raffaelli denied the interceptions, speaking of a very good relationship with Cantaluppi and denying training with humiliating punishments, such as staying in their underwear.

A system of omertà and rotten from head to toe.

It`s known who will replace Maccarani?

Too bad to hear another case in which athletes are really ashamed and exploited by careless, insensitive bastards, to the point some of them quit the sport they love.

Some months ago I helped a former junior Mexican judo competitor to create his own school. One of the main points he wanted to add to the statutes of his association was the existence of a medical and welfare committee, which helped kids with potential abuse from coaches and that this could be replicated at the local level by other schools and the State's judo association. He told me in his own experience, this conducts are often tolerated and silenced by the national federations in order to get more public funding, which of course, is disgusting.

    • For 50 years, we lived without gas from the USSR, and it was one of the best periods in European history, so we'll manage. It was a huge mistake by our politicians after the fall of the USSR on early 1990s, to allow themselves to be bought off with their dirty money. I hope it never happens again.

    • @bestmen Look, I've been reading your comments regarding Russia for quite some time, and I don't want to bite my tongue this time.   First, context matters. I agree with @copravolley. It’s not an insult to say that people who don’t live near Russia often underestimate what this war actually means for Europe. Out of the three of us, I can say with certainty that I feel the most directly affected by and concerned about this war.   In the same way I wouldn’t share my opinions on Africans and the conflicts on their continent, or lecture Palestinians about the war in Gaza, it’s reasonable to listen first when Europeans explain why this is not just a political disagreement that happens to block Russian athletes from competing, but an ongoing war of aggression that doesn’t only affect Ukraine, but also countless other countries located nearby with a long and dramatic history of communism and Russian influence. To make it clear, you're absolutely entitled to your opinion. However, you have repeatedly pushed the same narrative about the supposed injustice towards Russian competitors.   Second of all, the claim that Russian athletes have nothing to do with politics is blatantly wrong. It's a lie, and you know it. Countless Russians are actively supporting the crimes that Russia is committing on Ukrainian soil, advocating for further military operations, and show little to no remorse. Many Russians supported Putin throughout his presidential campaigns and continued doing so even after the invasion. Just look at their public statements made over the past three years. They are expected to align with the state’s narrative. That’s not an individual moral judgment, it’s how the system works.   Major Russian sports clubs are directly linked to or derived from the military. Hockey players wear war symbols and slogans on their jerseys, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Russian sports and politics are two sides of the same coin, closely related ever since the state began pouring money into centralised doping programs and sporting propaganda. Bringing up Netanyahu or Israeli doping is pretty much just whataboutism. If there is proven, systematic wrongdoing in sport, it should be addressed through proper investigations and sanctions. That does not magically erase or excuse Russia’s actions, nor does it justify pretending this war doesn’t exist when it becomes inconvenient.
