Fencing Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

And now what was expected became true.

FIE allowed to participate Velikaya and Egorian.

It means all the recommendations from the IOC were thrown away by Usmanov` puppets.

Open Letter to the International Fencing Federation (FIE) from over 440 International Fencers

https://www.globalathlete.org/our-word/open-letter-fie-2025

As athletes, we are not mere participants—we are the sport, and we share responsibility for upholding its values. Therefore, we call on the FIE to:

  • Immediately reverse its decision to reinstate Russian and Belarusian athletes and resume thorough reviews and checks for every athlete applying for AIN status;

  • Align its policies with the broader Olympic community’s standards on neutrality and eligibility;

  • Ensure meaningful athlete consultation in decisions affecting the ethical integrity of international competitions.

Only 2 people from Italy signed it list in this 1 is Samele, who is in a relationship with Kharlan. A bit sad. I also don`t see names from countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Iran, etc., and now it`s Asia + Russia that has the most to influence in fencing which is visible in the way of referee. Europe no longer dominates as it once did.

Rumors within Fencing community, the highest-ranked nation from each of the continental zones  between 5th and 24th position will qualify to LA not 5th to 16th.

will wait for the official announcement.

I guess the Egyptian acting president of the FIE gotta make sure that the African Champions can qualify even without travelling to World Cups.

I believe so too, if this happened it means simply any African team wins the African championship would guarantee a spot for sure in the first 24 teams.

:EGY men team (all 3 events) would be able to qualify even with the previous rule (rare chance to miss) , but women will make use of this rule for sure.

:ALG Sabre women team would have a good chance too.

Normally all for continental representation but I feel like the old rule worked fine, especially with the very small field for Olympic team events.

agree with you, I am for it too, but the old rule was fair enough, I think it should stay.

I'd accept such kind of change only if they enlarge the field up to 12 teams per weapon (and they must change the farcical reserve rule and make it the same of WC and WChs)

It was approved last year by FIE Congress, so it is going to happen unless this year Congress decides to push back the change, which is unlikely given the current situation. They also approved ranking dates from April 3rd 2027 to April 1st 2028.

    • this is not funny at all, pal
    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
