Only the top 2 nations (based on the ranking of the second athlete) may enter two athletes. Potentially, a third nation may enter two, but only if there aren't enough eligible athletes in the top 50.

Africa:

Asia: One of 

Europe: One of

Host:

World Rankings: Combination of  (probably not)  and whichever countries don’t qualify from Asian Games. 

Universality: ?

Final Qualification Tournament: One of the above in World Rankings

 

 and one of  (most likely) or  seem safe with two quotas. The other will be favourites if a third team gets allocated two. 

 

Women

Oceania:

Europe: One of

Americas:  /  if US is ineligible due to their host quota, if the host quota gets reallocated then Canada will be in contention in the rankings

Africa:  

Asia: One of  

Host:

World Rankings: Combination of  (x1?)  (x1/2)  (x1/2), whichever doesn’t qualify out of  / ,  and  ?

Final Qualification Tournament: One of above.

The women's top 50 is so crammed with athletes from the same five nations that it is not inconceivable they are unable to fill the full quota from the top 50, in which case a third double spot would open up between USA/BEL/GBR

they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.

I love the judo qualification system, for me is the best in all disciplines.

It combines a strong circuit, and it allows 100 or so countries to participate in.

 

So, maybe, if UWW does its job properly, it will be a good thing.

I love that it is more straightforward in relation to the number of quotas and does not allow possible problems as it was in Tokyo and Paris.

This is a new sport. Here's how the quota breakdown looks like.

 

Host Nation - 1

World Championships - 4

Final Qualifying Tournament - 1

 

The host nation must participate at the Continental Championships and World Championships in order to get the quota. This will satisfy the continental representation. Additionally only a maximum of 3 nations from a single continent can qualify.

 

The World Championships will be awarded in such a way that all four continental federations are represented (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Pan America if the United States doesn't get the host nation quota), but only if the team finished in the top 12. Any remaining quotas will be allocated to the highest ranked nation.

 

The Final Qualifying Tournament will consist of the top six nations at the World Championships which failed to qualify (provided no continent qualified three nations already).

Seems fair to me. I actually think, given the six team limit, this is sort of the ideal qualification system (for any sport with six quotas).

Tennis

The ranking limit for the ITF Places has increased from 400 to 500. Additionally, Pan America lost one of its ITF Places and it was reallocated to the Pacific Games.

Triathlon

The mixed relay qualification event was removed so the rankings will decide 8 teams. Additionally, the five continents are to be represented in mixed relay provided they are in the top 15.

 

In the individual side, the continental games will qualify the highest ranked nation not yet qualified (New Flag) provided that the athlete ranks in the top 160. This goes along with the "New Flag" rankings we've seen in the past.

Weightlifting

We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.

 

The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.

 

The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.

 

The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.

 

Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.

Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody! 

 

this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs. 

 

most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 ! 

Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024

 

I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
