There's only one change in the starting lineup from 2024: Nervini for Bosetti. Bosetti had a very poor season in Turkey, especially offensively and has always had significant limitations – at 179 cm heigh. Nervini doesn't necessarily have to be a weakness in this team – he's only 22, but the rest of the starting lineup is experienced: de Gennaro, Sylla, Danesi, Orro and Egonu. I believe Brazil is more weaknes due to the absence of Ana Cristina.

Our problem is exclusively the opposite. In Ana Cristina's absence, Gabi can take over as the main attacker, and Julia Bergmann stabilizes the reception, allowing us to use the middle blockers more.

Kisy was returning from injury and should be our starting opposite at the Wch. In the final against Italy (VNL), she performed well enough by our current standards. We'll see what happens in this tournament.

On a specialized volleyball forum, someone user from Brazil wrote that their NT team has too little power on the attack to beat Italy without Ana Cristina. What do you think?

I agree; my bet is that Italy will win the championship. But I see that Egonu didn't have a very good VNL, and that Antropova really made the difference. Nervini could also be a problem.

And it's one thing to expect it, another to actually happen. Italy destroyed us in the 2022 VNL final and then lost to us twice in a row at the world championship.

Italy under Mazzanti and Italy under Velasco are completely different teams. Italy under Mazzanti almost never had good form at the most important tournament of the season. In 2022, the level wasn't very high for me, as Serbia won. For me, Brazil was the favorite in the final then, but that team still hasn't broken the World Champ. curse.

I find it incredible how Sweden has a team that shouldn't even beat Kenya on a normal day, but somehow Haak puts them a few levels above.

Anyway, today wasn't enough. But maybe they can beat Thailand.

I. Haak was incredibly good today, but the level of The Netherlands was awful. Main problem for us: we are missing a good opposite (maybe Haak can change nationality, her name already sounds Dutch).

The most important match of the first round of play in the group stage is coming up in half an hour. :BUL vs. :CAN is pretty much a direct elimination match, as the winner is almost assured in getting to the 1/8.

An interesting fact about the other team in the group :ESP . This will be their first appearance at the women's WCH in 40 years and they have a player, who had been born when they last played, as they have a 45-year old in the roster. :yikes:

    • that specific problem was fixed, but many people questioned the whole recording system of the splits in all races probably we will never know if they were 100% correct, however some efforts were outstanding for instance, it was clearly visible that Mawdsley was in great shape and a lot faster than her opponents so, it might be that it wasn't truly a 48.3, but still she outran her rivals by miles, that's what really counts in such kind of meet

    • Imoco's squad is getting older, and it will be increasingly difficult to win the Champions League, while other Italian clubs don't have much money. In a next year, Turkey will have three super-strong clubs in the Champions League and Italy will only have Imoco, which has retained its core squad, but it's getting older: Wołosz, de Gennaro and Zhu won't be better than before. I fear this was Italy's last chance for Champions League win for many years.
