Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Medal Count

I guess the Gold Medals will end at the same number. US -1 heading to the Final Day.

US with 3 chances of Gold Medal, China with 1 (huge) chances of Gold.

I believe US is underdog in Volleyball against Italy, what about the Wrestling Final against Japan?

One of the previous posts mentioned that US also has solid gold medal chances in cycling in women's omnium.

Does Australia have any Gold chances in cycling tomorrow? Otherwise with 2 wrestling finals, I think Japan is going to be third for the second consecutive Olympics.

Table tennis started to be more competitive, Chinese men started losing more regularly, so its interesting to watch.

Diving was interesting until Paris as we always had at least one gold medal not be claimed by China.

This time dives were boring as we already knew who will win even after 1st dives.

IOC must change something because if 8 golds are won by the same country more than once, something is fishy.

Who could endanger them?

Not so sure. I had hopes in Mexico, Ukraine, GB but they are just to weak.

I can bet that with this system we will have 8 golds for China in LA too.

I'm not sure there's anything fishy about it. With their vast population the Chinese have a production line of great divers and it is difficult to compete against that.

My only complaint would be that the judges tend to be much more lenient with Chinese divers on the rare occasions when they do make mistakes. Normally it doesn't make much difference but on this occasion it did in the very close three way battle for the men's 10 m synchro where Mexico were robbed of a gold medal in my opinion.

But what a battle for the top of the medal table!

That high jump silder may cost too much for the USA.

There is a real chance that the :USA will be one gold medal behind :CHN because McEwen refused to share gold with :NZL Kerr xD

Both the US and China are heavy favourites to win one gold tomorrow (women's basketball and women's +87kg in weightlifting). China doesn't have any other real gold medal chances, while the US is in two other finals (women's volleyball and women's -76kg in wrestling) and I believe favourite in the women's omnium

China takes a 1 gold lead over the United States going into the final day. 13 events remaining specifically:

Athletics - Women's Marathon

Basketball - Women's Tournament

Cycling - Men's Keirin

Cycling - Women's Individual Sprint

Cycling - Women's Omnium

Handball - Men's Tournament

Modern Pentathlon - Women's Individual

Volleyball - Women's Tournament

Water Polo - Men's Tournament

Weightlifting - Women's +81kg

Wrestling - Men's Freestyle -65kg

Wrestling - Men's Freestyle -97kg

Wrestling - Women's Freestyle -76kg

Of these events, here are the ones with either China or the United States still active

China

Athletics - Women's Marathon

Cycling - Women's Omnium

Modern Pentathlon - Women's Individual

Weightlifting - Women's +81kg

United States

Athletics - Women's Marathon

Basketball - Women's Tournament

Cycling - Women's Omnium

Volleyball - Women's Tournament

Weightlifting - Women's +81kg

Wrestling - Women's Freestyle -76kg

China is heavily favoured to win the women's +81kg weightlifting, after that their gold medal chances become quite non-existent. Honestly, out of the three remaining events for them they have the best chance in women's marathon and that's pretty much near 0%.

Will the United States find at least two more golds to win? The women's basketball will be their best chance for gold which counters the weightlifting medal China will win tomorrow. After that they have a trio of events; women's omnium, women's volleyball, and women's freestyle -76kg to win gold. Statistically, they should win at least one gold from the three, but there is a big enough chance that they could miss in all three.

    • In yesterday matches, ,  and  qualified to the final tournament. Big surprise as Antigua and Barbuda defeated the Dominicans, and  defeated El Salvador 2-0 but they needed to win for atleast 3 goals so they are out. Big shoutout to Antigua and Barbuda and Jamaica who ended the group without receiving any goal.    In today's matches,  defeated  3-0 so they become the 10th team to enter the final tournament. In a couple of hours, we will have the final teams.    plays , both have 9 points but the goal difference is in favor of Haiti who is 14-0 (Curazao is 12-2). A draw benefits Haiti.   In the other match,  qualification is almost locked. Canada have 9 points and a 24-0 goal difference, and plays  who is runner-up with 6 points and 11-5 GD. This means, the only way for Nicaragua to qualify is to win by 10 goals or more.
