:LTU Gabija Galvidytė  so close to automatic qualifier in 800m with 1:59.18. 13th best time, so out of a sudden I'm not stoked about introduction of repechage in athletics  :d

I'm surprised people here haven't talked more about these weird repechage rounds they've come up with.. They should have at least tested them in another Championship to see how it goes and not just directly insert them at the Olympics.

The people below the top athletes are already behind them in performance, without forcing them to have an extra run, while the big names further relax for the 1/2.

Yeah, the repechages are a joke overall. To run an extra 800m heat in such a short span is downright crazy but we all know WA doesn't give a hoot about minor nations. Thankfully they haven't ruined the field events with their crazy "last attempt wins no matter what happens in the previous five" idea.

I'm not sold on the repechages as a system but equally fastest losers is a flawed system and no fastest losers increases jeopardy for a faller etc.

I guess from the perspective of WA if their goal is to try and get the best 8 in the final, this set up is more likely to achieve that. I'm not sure there is a perfect system.

The one advantage of this system is that every athlete gets to compete twice at a Games, I guess.
