  • 2 weeks later...

The European Cross Country meet from Anatolia, Turkey Anatalya, Turkiye will be on Sunday 8th of December.  Quite a few familiar names in action at all levels.

Here's a preview.

And here's the full official Start List - completed about a week, so there may be changes since.

And the default TV coverage is FTA on European Athletics website = you'll need registration and usually a browser that does not have adblocking by default.

What I don't see yet is a timetable, which is good to have because these races are usually run in blocks and there can be large gaps between them for medal ceremonies, tears'n'hugs, dimwitted "and how do you feel about tripping just before the line, blowing a certain Gold and finishing fourth"-type questions etc.

New events happening.

  • There will be a mixed 4x100m, starting 2025
  • Official Walk distances from 2026 will now simply be Marathon & Half Marathon.

Gotta love the race walk nitpicking. 50km is too long and boring! Hell, let's do marathon distance in walk now :p

There will be more throws in field events now alas it's only a change for a change. At least this automatically means the longest marks will still win. Just no chance someone steals gold or silver from outside the podium with the last effort.

Got the full schedule for the Cross-Country Europeans now.  They have taken the logical step of running all the races firsts, and then holding the medal ceremonies.....has only taken them about 40 years to come up with this genius new idea. :smoke:

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
