haha that random club who played once 1-1 with FC Barcelona ?

Obviously the club exist and play in our 2nd tier if I am not wrong. but not under this name anymore, Matador left the club in 2006.

Matador is the biggest Slovak Tires brand https://www.matador.tires/car/the-brand , located in the city Púchov,  :d

Yeah, I remember Matador Puchov from many moons ago. I suppose their place in the spotlight was even shorter than Artmedia Bratislava :p

I always wondered about that name since I wasn't aware of bull fighting traditions in Czechoslovakia

Yes, haha no Bull fighting tradition here.  Anyway, I don´t know why but I always thought Matador is quite famous brand also abroad. I was completelly wrong, I guess

Btw Artmedia Petržalka (that´s the offical name) is still existing in our 2nd league, (they changed the name to Bratislava for the european cups, because I assume not many people will be able to read the original name without broking their tongues)

Petržalka is the "infamous" district in the capital Bratislava, was originally build in the 70´s to help the problem with sudden population increase of the city, but ended only being the national leader in drugs and other criminality rating already during the late 80´s, another epic fail of the communism era :p

@hckosice- The funniest thing is Sharapovová instead of Sharapova in Slovakian sport news I was reading quite a few years ago.

yep, that´s a funny part of our language, we change all female foreign names to Slovak (it is basically in our law) However the foreign names finishing by ova must be turned into -ovová, like Sharapovová, or Fiodorowová  although the only exception are Chinese names which are not changed into our language by law..

For example the Olympic champion in Hammer Trow Anita Wlodarczyiková won in new world record etc...

https://sport.sme.sk/c/20242855/kladivarka-wlodarczykova-stanovila-novy-svetovy-rekord.html?ref=gamp_article

in this article you can find perfect example, The silver chinese girl is the only without name changed, however Fodorowa and Magieva got another ova to their original ova in their names.

I know, we are weird :d

How on earth is there a special exception in the law for specifically Chinese and not for example Spanish? :d

The suffix would be longer than the name itself - imagine Li Na being Liova Na. It even looks bad on paper :p

“Tell me, Madame President” <pounds fist on table> “What is the Slovak Government’s official position on female names in Papuan languages of the Tor-Kwerba family?  No more of your evasions & equivocations!  The people of Papua New Guinea demand parity with China, or you shall feel the force of our poisoned blow-pipe darts!  No jars of home-made honey shall appease us!”

Jolien D'Hooreová, Anna van der Breggenová, does this even make sense? :d

Also, seems like Chinese names are spelled in a totally different way in Slovak.

Shi Jinglin becomes  Š' Ťing-lin.

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
