I'm a bit disappointed by Pergher's time over the 500m, I expected her to be within 1 sec from the actual race winner, but she's at least 3-4/10 outside that

meanwhile, even if she slooks like to become a pure 500m specialist, I'm really disappointed with her 1.20 over the 1000m...she can do way better than that

good results instead for Bosa, waiting for Ghiotto to enlight our speedskating weekend

Good to finally see a Leerdam race without the cameras spending more time focusing on Jake freaking Paul  (like at the World Cup qualifiers two weeks ago)

That atrocious mixed relay might be the single worse attempt at a mixed gendered team event I have ever seen at a senior top level event, and the bar is extremely low.

(The only thing worse I've ever seen is a mixed gendered / mixed weapon fencing team event, but it wasn't at this high a level of competition)

Generally there just should not be relay events in long track. The team pursuit (and team sprint, as much as people here dislike it :P ) works as a model for a team event in speed skating. A relay does not.

If we're in need of extra events, I'd much prefer the relay over the team sprint. That just adds nothing at all, it's basically just the team pursuit...but short.

World Skate runs a relatively well-regarded relay event on the track. Of course, patinodromes are much closer in length to short track rinks than long track ovals.

I’m not really sold on either the team pursuit or team sprint, but at least they’re different from other skating events on the Olympic program.

I mean ya, it's just the team pursuit but for sprinters. I don't see anything wrong with the two events being very similar.

Ya, the relay works great in short track (the short track relays are among my favourite Olympic events), but long track is both too high speed and has too long of a straightaway to make relay exchanges work well.

I'm not surprised inline relays work fine, given the smaller track and speeds more comparable to short track.

Maybe a format similar to the madison could work for long track? Skaters could either push or hand sling on exchanges over a longer distance points race.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
