Canoe Slalom C2 and 50km Race Walk please

This is like a bad break-up or a death of someone close or something. You know, you're doing fine at some point after a while, but then you hear or see the name or have some sudden memory, and your heart breaks again. That's sort of what it is with the 50k race walk at a major global sports event, I miss it, badly :(

@heywoodu We know some of walkers and know they're some of the best people in the whole of sport

So now that the events are over. Which sports/events (if any) would you like to see added to the Olympics?

Tumbling defintely, (speed) Parkour potentially at some point in the future and that's it. Not, I don't enjoy some other world games disciplines (fistball, fin swimming, lyonnaise or my dear canoeing polo), but realy everything else doesn't seem like olympic material to me. Too much niche, too much weird, too much redundant, too much artistich or leisurish and not enough sportish, etc.

Disclaimer: I'm not really going for things like "how easily would it fit in the program in terms of number of athletes" and "do enough countries win medals" and stuff like that, just going by what I have seen and what my personal opinions are :p

Artistic & Dance Sports
I absolutely want to see tumbling in the Olympics, out of all the sports and events here, that is by far my number one wish. I would also certainly be fine with the double mini-trampoline.

Ball Sports
I've always found canoe polo quite cool to watch, plys it is a very different thing than anything else. Lacrosse was also quite nice, wouldn't mind if that stays in the Olympics.

Martial Arts
The (combat) sambo was interesting and often brought some exciting moments, so did the wushu (sanda) and the K1 kickboxing. Not really sure if it was enough for me to add another combat sport, but if so, I'd probably go for sambo.

Precision Sports
I had hoped to go for field archery, but I thought it was more of a 'run around and shoot targets' kind of thing, so was somewhat disappointed. No to the billiards for me and the boules....alright, the lyonnaise progressive and the precision shooting were pretty enjoyable, but I think not really enough to want to see it at the Olympics.

Strength Sports
As I've already said for years: I want tug-of-war to become Olympic and become a big deal, that'd be awesome. Great teamwork, pure technique and strength, really different than any other sport, it was all the ingredients for me.

Trend Sports
Dragon boat racing was fun enough to watch, I especially liked the beating of the drums. Finswimming, absolutely, as long as the camera work is good, it is nice and exciting to watch. The freediving too (but one of the two disciplines, having both is unncessary), super nice but tense slow-TV. Inline track speed skating would be nice as a summer equivalent of shorttrack, kind of, although I fear it would be bad for our beloved speed skating (you know, on ice). Life saving was nice too, I would be fine with ultimate disc (as long as American football isn't on there, should be one or the other, the one with a ball or the one with a disc).

OK. This is a bad sign.

The sports and events I want to include would be the ones I would know :GBR would be good at.

But to be honest I do really like tumbling, tug of war and canoe polo. Tumbling I find spectacular, tug of war everybody in Britain competes at school sports day and one of my neighbours competed in canoe polo. This sounds horribly biased

that would be Archery Biathlon, which also exists by itself (in both the summer & winter versions) ☝️

ps Artistic & Dance just CAN'T have the word SPORT beside them 😈

pps I agree about Tug of War

Karatè for sure, it’s global, and the only time it was Olympic 20 noc won at lest a medal, canoe polo could be a candidate, maybe a roller sport

But make it kyokushin karate, so it's really about fighting as hard as you can (like any combat sport should be at the highest multi-sport event level).

This is officially the longest thread for The World Games on Totallympics :d

I wasn't around as much towards the end, but it was a lot of fun having such an active thread with everyone once again. Let's do this more often!

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
